Until the birds, I never used to see anything beyond my job as a university lecturer, the Husband and Son, and my own navel (not necessarily in that order!)
Now, I have begun to see in a new way. Here are some pictures that ‘describe’ how an unobservant person like me has had her eyes opened.
Oh, just in case you’re wondering, one of the pictures is of a strange new bird we have recently discovered dancing around the place. I don’t really want to shoo him away but I might have to!

I think it is a Green-tailed Australian Dancer. 🙂
I knew you’d know what breed it was – thanks! Do you think I should try to re-home it? hehe
Gosh, some of your posts are just hilarious, Julie.
(& I just hope your son has ‘unfollowed’ your Blog, otherwise you’ll never hear the end of it).
Actually, I think that new bird species dancing around your garden is very similar to the Rainbow Lorikeet which I’ve been photographing in the Botanic Gardens near my home. Not as colourful as the Rainbow Lorikeet, so maybe it’s a Double-eyed Fig-Parrot (race macleayana), although they’re not usually seen in Western Australia.
Whatever it is, it’s a colourful bird indeed….
It certainly is a colourful bird and it may well be a Rainbow Lorikeet!
He’s unfollowed but he still approved my use of his picture!
I just love it when my geese dance for me. As for the Son Bird, well, I think you should keep him around for at least a bit longer. 😉 ~ Lynda
Yes, I think we will!
It’s called the DANCE OF LIFE.
M.L.
And here I was thinking it was a plain old bird of paradise!
I agree, that one in green shorts just might have to go. . .
Awwww!
Can it fly?
You never know!
