Pink and grey galahs

on March 26, 2012

A few posts ago I mentioned there were more wild birds here than ever before. Apart from the fact that there is birdseed and wheat grain everywhere, I think this is mainly to do with the fact that birds attract birds! Two of our white peacocks made friends with some of them.

Here are some pictures to prove that, yes, we now have at least two (maybe six) pink and grey galahs. For those of you who are either birders or photographers, I can’t lay claim to either of these titles yet. In other words, the photos of the beautiful birds are really crappy! You will need your binoculars for the second one!

    Hi,
Oh yes they are definitely looking very comfortable at your place, maybe they will call it home. 😀

  2. You’ve got a little corner of paradise there!

You have a few exotic birds in your garden. I have Blue tits, Chaffinches, Blackbirds, Great tits etc coming to my garden but nothing exotic.

We bought the exotic ones (peacocks etc.) but the galahs are wild and I adore them – hope more will come along. We don’t have chaffinches but I wish we did over here!

I love the word ‘galah’, you know – especially when you call someone a galah 🙂

Your yard looks so wonderful to be in, sitting in the sun, with a coffee, looking at galahs…

I suppose if they see other birds, they know it’s safe.

  6. Very interesting, not something we would have around here!

I find that birds are way more prolific where there are no herbicides and pesticides.

    Gorgeous!

Lovely. You should start counting how many wild birds you are hosting, that should be fun.

Julie, are these in the parrot family? Or are they something entirely different? ~ Lynda

I think birds attract birds. I started out with sparrows, then the pigeons came, then two species I can’t identify, then a few Blue Jays and a Red Cardinal showed up. They know there is food here and they talk! 🙂

You’re so lucky to be in Australia!!

  12. I learn so much from your blog. I’ve never even heard of galahs!

  13. I’d should talk to you here. Which is not one thing I do!
