The heat is on

on April 6, 2012

It has been a cool, sunny day with temperatures in the house at around 22 but, because Husband feels the cold so badly, he is sitting in front of a roaring fire with all the windows closed and a blanket on and I have had to escape before I die of heat exhaustion!

We have had this conundrum for some time. Husband’s Parkinson’s disease makes him more susceptible to temperatures but not always in a way that makes sense to anyone else. I have just put another piece of wood on the fire in a room that has become a sauna and have taken a picture with his permission. He seems to find it amusing that I can’t venture into the room without melting.

I am not amused – ha!

It seems to be an age old problem with people who live together. I have gotten to the point where I am thinking of putting one of those office locks over the thermostat. Stay cool. Hubby looks very happy. You are doing good work.

Julie, Maybe you could put on your summer togs and sit with him a bit by the fire. 😉

PS: I look like that every winter… meanwhile Bob is dressed in shorts and a T-shirt!

Ah yes, the problem with couples having different thermostats (apart from the Parkinsons).

I’m always hot (but I’m single). It’s rare than any friends visit me (even though I provide hot water bottles and mohair rugs for any who feel the cold. I have to go and swelter in their overheated residences (instead).

Maybe a new form of attire for the Lady of the Goyder Household. Just a towel wrapped around your midrift and your hair bound up in a second towel (as in a sauna)?

  5. You need to jump into your bikini and join him. HA! I’ve been watching your blog counter and you are doing excellent, much better than I. Keep up the good posts.

  6. It’s interesting to me to read your post (and your readers) about you and husband being from different planets when it comes to temperatures. My husband & I have been having this “debate” for over 20 years.
I’m always too warm, and my husband is always cold, especially since he has retired he’s often cold. A room just perfect for him would be about 75 – 76 degrees Fahrenheit. I’d be throwing of clothes and swearing at the circumstances I often cannot get cool enough fast enough. I even take medicine for it apparently my thymus gland is tweaked.

I’ve only the suggestion of an ice cold towel place behind your neck just under your hair line. No bikini’s involved.

    Hi,
I also would have to escape the room, I like things on the cool side, and find with the weather just starting to cool off is very nice. 🙂

I like the togs idea. 😀

  8. You need one of those little battery operated fans you can carry in your pocket! Margie

  9. Husband does look happy, so I believe that your sacrifice is well worth it. Though I hope you don’t die of heat exhaustion. That would put a glitch in your weekend.

    But he looks content 🙂

We have a similar problem. The Hub’s ME means that he is often running a temperature and the rest of us are freezing. We take turns being uncomfortable 🙂

  12. If it were 22 in my house, I’d be frozen to death! Oh, I bet that’s 22°C. Nevermind………… lol

  13. I like to be warm, but I think I’d be baking in that room and under that blanket!
