Emery 1: Is Julie okay?
Emery 2: Shut up, Emery 1, and eat your dinner – I’ve saved you the crusts
Emery 3: Those funny little chicks out there yesterday were rather cute weren’t they!
Emery 2: (munching) Well they’re gone now aren’t they?
Emery 1: Oh, poor Julie
Emery 2: They were just guinnea fowl – get over it!
Emery 3: You really are callous aren’t you and you’re the female of this group!
Emery 2: I am not a female!
Emery 1: Actually, I think Emery 3 might be right, Emery 2 – you could be a female
Emery 2: Hell, I hope not!
Angelina: Where’s Julie?
Bubble: I’m not sure. I think she’s out there somewhere looking for those chicks.
Angelina: I hope she finds them! I’ve been looking for them too, you know, just out of curiosity.
Brad: I hate to say this, Angie, but I think a fox might have taken them.
Angelina: If so, I think we better gather around the back door and make sure Julie is okay.
Brad: Good idea – let’s go – let’s cheer her up!

Birds are so oblivious to loss. Aren’t they? Such pea brains!
Pea brains all right!
So cute! Lovely shots hon. 🙂
*hugs*
Thanks Sonel!
Hi,
Great photos, but the fox bit didn’t sound good.
I’m beginning to think it might have been the crows now because there isn’t a sign of bodies.
This was so lovely Thank you dear Julie, you captured such nice photographs too. With my love, nia
Thank you nia!
Thank you nia!
That white peacock looks interesting – never seen one before.
Yes, we have 3 – one male and two females – they are gorgeous aren’t they!
Love them – they are such a contrast to the male in its blue finery.
The white ones are more vulnerable to predators because they are so visible but at least they can fly up into the trees and be safe at night.
Your birds had the same idea!
They are wonderful!
I have read that guinea fowl are terrible mothers.. losing their babies in the long grass, we have never had an egg or a keet sighting, I think all mine are the one sex but i cannot tell them apart anyway.. c
Goodness knows how they survive in the wild! Thanks so much for your comment!
Beautiful pictures and dialogue. 🙂 Though I am sorry they are all gone …
~ Lynda
Yeah – I can’t believe it but did several searches in paddocks today and those chicks are definitely gone. Another lesson I guess! Thanks so much for comment.
Actually, a good portable dog kennel is great for just such need. You line it with plastic garden fencing and zip ties, and then place it where the nest is. Momma can get out, but probably won’t, but the babies can’t. Well, thinking about it… with your wildlife, you may want to anchor the fencing down… or just pick them up and put them in a totally confined space. It is a quandary. I have a picture of this set up on my blog, I will search for it so you can see.
Thanks – yes, I have one of those portables and I should have used it at dusk last night – looking forward to your picture of the set up and thanks again!
OK, I found the post. The pictures show a roll of green garden fence on the right, which in this particular set up was to keep the baby guineas and chicks in… and the big geese bills out! Hence, the green fence is attached to the chain link in these photos. But for the less matured guinea, attaching it to the portable fence with zip ties is best! 😉 Hope this helps for next time! ~ L

Thanks Lynda – I checked it out and now I know what to do next time there is a hatching – I really appreciate this and it was fun looking at this post! Juliex
😉

Thanks!!!
Good to know that your friends are standing by you.
Cute dialogue! It really fits the photos.
Thanks – it was a diversion!
Good idea birds! Cheer Julie up! Earn your feed!
Bella and DiDi
Haha!
I think that is so bizarre that the mothers are so clueless about their young, and that there is absolutely no evidence left that they ever existed other than your memory of them!
Yes, and the mothers took turns sitting on those eggs for weeeeeeeks!!! Weird.
And did they? Hope you gave them extra cabbage
Definitely!
Too funny!
