Yesterday, two women from the Balingup Historical Society came to visit Anthony in the nursing lodge. The first photo is of Helen with Anthony and the second is of Carol with Anthony. It took me an incredibly long time to achieve the bad lighting in the first picture and the blurriness in the second – ha! Oh well at least I have a bit of a record of what was a couple of hours of pure pleasure.
Together, we established that, in amongst that massive box of photos, there were sixteen of Golden Valley from when Anthony was a boy. Unfortunately he isn’t in any of these photos but some of the trees he planted are. It was the loveliest visit, with lots of laughs as Anthony kept referring to his first girlfriend who still lives in Balingup.
Each and every photo provoked a little story, memory, date and it was such a fantastic experience for me/us to meet these two dedicated woman who are so keen to preserve this history. If I wore a hat, I would take it off for them.
Thankyou, Carol and Helen for making Anthony’s day unforgettable!

That will be such a legacy of family history for Ming too. Glad it was a good experience.
Yes – I’m excited that they want him to come to the event in a few weeks! Not quite sure how this will be possible but it’s worth a try!
So glad it was a fruitful day and had you smiling… wonderful…
It was so great!
Sounds like a wonderful experience, especially for Anthony.
I’m sure he appreciated the visit, just as Helen & Carol would have enjoyed the chat with Anthony.
(and you).
It was rollicking!
What a glorious day for everyone. Love that Anthony was keen to mention the previous girlfriend, perhaps a little too often 😀
Very often!!!
I’m glad you both enjoyed it. What will be the end project? Have you already said that? I’m sorry if you have, but will there be an event? a book?
These women (the committee) are organizing an event in a few weeks to celebrate the history of Golden Valley – I/we are just helping them out sort of. I don’t really know what is going on exactly because I never know what is going on exactly but I am trying for Anthony’s sake!
You are a good woman Julie!
You haven’t seen my dark side!
I’m so happy there were those sixteen photos and the rollicking fun! And good for those women, for putting forth the effort to preserve some of the history.
Yes, those women deserve a bravo!
I love your pics – they are true to life for most of us – they are you taking pictures of real life. Glad you had such a great day – you both deserve some laughs.
It was fantastic!
Very cool. Yes, we have to grab information while we can. Sometimes, we wait too late as in the case of my grandparents. I’m sure Anthony retrieved many memories to share.
I do wish I had recorded his stories earlier although many of them are now in my head.
i don’t know why i thought that Ants could not sit up by himself, but I was glad to see that he can!!!!! I am glad also that this was a great two hours for all of you. talking about memories, always a nice thing
He usually slumps to the side – yesterday was an exception which was great!
That is Fabulous!
Yes indeed!
Sounds like a perfect little visit for Anthony and you too Julie. I’m so happy it worked out this well and brought some light and joy to you both (even if your photos are a tad dark) 🙂 🙂 I think this project re: preserving history – is wonderful for everyone involved!! xxoo Much LOVE!
Yes it’s quite exciting!
How neat! We love photos that have stories.
Bella and DiDi
Thanks!
My friend was smart and recorded these sessions with her father as they toured the country in the car..If these women write about it, then excellent!
I wish I had recorded Anthony’s stories before now. Oh well never too late.
Wonderful .. and I’m happy both for Al and you – that something useful and nice came out of that box – a great day for Al most of all. Fantastic sunshine story … thanks for sharing.
You mean Ants lol!
Now I done it again .. mixing up names – I’m so terrible. Sorry …
It’s fine! I actually think it’s kind of funny because it made me think about whether I could do what Terry does and I realized I couldn’t – she is such a hero. I already went through some of what she is going through with Al with my own Ants. No need to be sorry you beautiful woman!
I mix up Terry too with Tilly – if I have got it wrong once I have really big problems with getting it right. You know what I mean anyhow. You’re both some heroes in my book – amazing strong and wonderful women that keep your life on hold for somebody you love. I don’t know if I would be able to do that – I think I’m too selfish and too independent – love my own space too much.
Oh I know! I once replied ‘thanks Tilly’ to another blogger – hahahaha!
We must belong to the same club .. brilliant – thought I was alone. *smile
You are pink grapefruit lemonade!
I’m sure that is meant as compliment – thank you, love lemonade and I like grapefruit.
BIG COMPLIMENT! I saw some in a shop today and the pinkness reminded me of you Viveka.
Can’t ask for more than that Jules. Glad it went so well. Yay!
The women are coming back again (to return the photos and have another chat) – yeeha!
That’s fantastic!
Did you happen to get an audio recording of the discussion?
I didn’t even think of it – stupid me. They are coming back soon so I will be ready.
What a blessed gift… TY for sharing it with us… Special! 🙂
Nia is such a generous soul!
How truly special this is. An amzing legacy for Ming & mini-Ming’s.
Anthony looked so proud!
I take my hat off to you Jules. Not a lot of wives would hav emade this happen. You are always my truly ama”x”ing Jules.
Thanks for sharing this, it’s really something to cherish. And through your blogging you can create a journal, just add photos and water. Okay maybe not water this time but you get the idea.
Mini-Mings? God help us all – hehe!
Wonderful. History is awesome, especially when there is a personal connection.
Yes this is working out really well!
