I thought this was a bird blog!
Well it was. It’s a blog that keeps misbehaving and deviating from its initial stance, which was cheer-upish!
So, let’s get back to the birds. The following is one of my favourite pictures of the peaceful peacocks trying to break up a fight between the pheasants.
Unfortunately their interventions didn’t work!
Jane, Anthony’s niece, took these photographs while the rest of us just watched the unexpected drama unfold. Yes, I have possibly posted these before and, no, Phoenix 2 has never come back.
‘Alas’ is rather a good word which resembles ‘aha!’
Pink and grey galahs
A few posts ago I mentioned there were more wild birds here than ever before. Apart from the fact that there is birdseed and wheat grain everywhere, I think this is mainly to do with the fact that birds attract birds! Two of our white peacocks made friends with some of them.
Here are some pictures to prove that, yes, we now have at least two (maybe six) pink and grey galahs. For those of you who are either birders or photographers, I can’t lay claim to either of these titles yet. In other words, the photos of the beautiful birds are really crappy! You will need your binoculars for the second one!
Eventually… magic!
Eventually, our two white peacocks will do this! At the moment, they are only teenagers so it might be another year or so before their tail feathers grow long enough for them to do this fantail thing. I can’t wait!

White peacocks again
I’m a little perturbed, on the white peacocks’ behalf, that the post about them [16th Nov.] seemed to go unnoticed.
They are not used to this lack of ‘ooh/aaah’ attention.
I don’t understand their attention-seeking behaviour, but I do have a grudging respect for their vanity.
Hence this second post in one day – silly really, but I think they were a little hurt by the lack of commentary.
The white peacocks
I have three of these beautiful creatures and I don’t think words are necessary to describe what these photos already show. In the early morning, they fly down from their bed-time tree to forage, and the sight never ceases to curl my body into a smile.
Note: The term ‘peacock’ refers to the male of the species, ‘peahen’ refers to the female, and ‘peafowl’ refers to both, however ‘peacocks’ has now become the term familiar to most people, hence my use of it in this blog.
“Those thieving birds”
Silverchair’s song, “Those thieving birds” is one of my favourites and I was tempted to call this blog “Thieving birds” but I thought that might be just as obscure as the weird metaphors in this beautiful song (check it out …. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCQ-TWipBhc )
For me, the idea of thieving birds, despite its darker implications, means this: These birds have stolen tidbits of my heart then returned them to me like nuggets of gold. Yeah, I know that sounds a bit cliched and twee but hopefully the pictures will do the talking here.
