Hi
This blog is for anyone who has ever dreamed of having wings. Over the last year I have discovered the weird and wonderful world of birds. It started with guinnea fowl and peacocks, then it was poultry, then it was pheasants and now I have around ten varieties of winged creatures, most of whom will eat out of my hand. There have been some mishaps, and a fair amount of mayhem, but mostly it has been hilarious fun.
Each blog post will include at least one photo and an anecdote. The one above is of two golden pheasant brothers having an argument. What happened after this photo was taken was alarming and will be divulged in the next post!

Your farm has become a wonderland! As I drive in I am welcomed by peacocks, some displaying magnificent tails, with the white ones, silhouetted against the backdrop of trees, guinea fowl moving in unison this way and that, the shy little pheasants darting here and there, a flash of brilliance, and Godfrey, the tall and diginified gander, bringing up the rear as he shepherds his flock of goslings, baby chicks, ducklings and turkey chicks. Rushing around in diminishing circles as if his life depends on it, is the emu chick, with his neck in a perpetual question mark. A little to one side the two gorgeous alpacas, one deep tan and the other beige, stare haughtily at this woman daring to invade their territory. My daughter has become Dr Dolittle! Meg.
Godfrey bit me on the bum this morning which I didn’t think was very dignified. I got too close to the youngest gosling, Woodroffe, who I raised from 1 day old but Godfrey, who is unrelated to Woody, seems to think he did the raising – ha! If he bites me again, I will bite him back!
It isn’t often that I read a whole blog when I first find it, well actually you found me, but the point is that I have thoroughly enjoyed reading back to the beginning this morning. You have a way with words AND you have Godfrey! I look forward to many more posts from you. ~ Lynda
Thanks, Lynda – as one goose fan to another, I can’t wait to post pics of the Sebastopals! Julie
So this was your FIRST post, Julie? Just curious. I love all the birdlife around your joint. It’s great – a great way to wake up, meet the day/world.
