A wing and a prayer

on December 3, 2011

Hi all

I just accidentally restored a post I thought I’d deleted so I guess it’s out there now. I actually just wanted to see what I wrote and if I embarrassed myself. Yes, I think I did! Oh well.

As a novice blogger, I have appreciated the comments and interest in my blog. One of the things I’m finding it hardest to do is to restrain myself from posting more than once a day so, despite the wise advice of a more experienced blogger to keep it as a once-a-day thing, I have another friend who says ‘go ahead and post away – the more the better’. It is good to be caught between these two opposing viewpoints.

This blog was never intended as some sort of outlet and I don’t like the idea that I might have given this impression when all I wanted to do was talk about the birds. However, some of the supportive comments I’ve received indicate that my ‘between-the-lines’ stuff has somehow hit the empathy button. I really don’t want any more of these comments please; I’m not fond of empathy unless I am doing it myself – hehe!

Tonight, Son confronted Husband with the fact that we need some respite from his Parkinson’s disease and he didn’t do this gently. So now I am about to go and pick up the pieces of my broken husband, tuck him in, then have a long talk with Son about the fact that Husband himself needs some respite from his Parkinson’s disease which is on-a-wing-and-a-prayer impossible.

It’s always a balance. Just do what feels right to you. Being yourself in your blog is what readers respond to. I have posted up to four times a day more than once; I often do three; average two.

    Just be yourself.

Yes, I hope you don’t mind but I kind of see you as my blog exemplar because what you do works really well and I so love your sense of humour and even if you posted 15 times in a day I would read them all – so I will go with flow – thanks Tilly!

For what its worth I agree with Tilly. I enjoy reading your blog, and the posts are short, sharp and sweet. If for some reason I haven’t got time to read them right then I just go back to them later. When I first started my blog I posted about once a week, and now it’s been about 6 months since I posted! Mine aren’t short and sweet however, they’re often long and are really there for my own reflection on pedagogical issues, and for my students to read and consider. Different blogs for different reasons, different strokes for different folks. You’re getting really good responses to your posts and this is no mean feat as often people will be reading them but are quite reticent to post a response. You’ve bought out the response in your readers so well done! 🙂

  3. Oh my, I did the same thing the other day. It was a post I already had on the blog but yet there it was saying it was a draft! A DRAFT How could that be? So I hit publish and whalaa it posted a second time. I was not trying to skirt my duties of publishing a new post. I was just a novice practicing my stupidity.

It takes a long time (in my opinion) to slide comfortably into this blogging thing.

Still, it’s a way to share your thoughts and vision and SHARING sometimes brings the most unlikely of people together.

Wish the rest of the world was more SHARING (and less destructive in their actions).
