Romance

on January 21, 2012

I am still watching those two loved-up peafowl. The white peahen has become rather a show off lately, so I’m worried that the peacock’s interest in her may have gone to her head because she keeps standing on the food box and pirouetting in front of all of the peacocks when really (and I’ve told her this!) she should be loyal to her first suitor.

For the sake of convenience, and clarity, I have decided to name them Brad and Angelina.

In the photo below you will see that Angelina is a little confused; she is in the middle, between two male white peacocks who both adore her but are beginning to tire of her antics.

And here we have Brad, being advised by one of Angie’s brothers to persevere because, ultimately, it will all be worth it.

Ahhhhh – romance … what would we do without its uncertainty, excitement, agony and joy? Mmmm – probably we’d all be calmer and wiser and very boring!

  1. What a great post. I love the white ones too altho I’ve never seen them for real. Your blog came up as a suggestion under my newest about a peacock commission watercolor I just finished. I couldn’t resist coming over.
Will these white peacocks have a mix of babies or will they be all white? Are they rare? I really don’t don’t much about them.
    peace n abundance,

I think the white ones are quite rare (I bought them from someone who was sick of them!) and I’ve also found out that their whiteness if actually a ‘fault’ in the peafowl species (a bit like anaemic).

You will have to do me a painting now that we are blog buddies – hehe!

      • White would be very challenging I think, but it can be done. do you have good photos?

No – those are my best photos because I’m not a photographer; I just take photos of our birds!

It might be better to wait until the 2 male whites grow up (next year) by which time they will be able to do the fantail thing (a spectacular sight I’ve only seen by googling).

    Hi,
You have to smile at her standing on the top of the box, she does look like she
    is the Queen. 😀

Love the white peacocks and the names Brad & Anglelina.
I’ve never seen white peacocks before seeing them on you blog – I like their clean, pure look. They show up well in the shade of the trees. I guess you’re finding that, like me, birds don’t photograph very clearly in Australia’s bright sun. It’s better to take photos in the shade (or on an overcast day).
