Okay, just in case you haven’t been following this blog for long, we now have exactly three turkeys (two of whom are called ‘Bubble’), and three emus (all of whom are called ‘Emery’). We had more of both breeds but have suffered some unforseen casualties, all of which are documented in previous posts. The only turkey who disrupts things now is our most recent addition to ‘the gang’, and we call her ‘Baby Turkey’ because two seconds ago she was tiny!
She is a real bully and scares the hell out of the poor emus when I’m taking them for a walk. I can’t believe Baby Turkey has transformed from a timid little chick into this Terminator character.

When we had chickens – a long time ago – the rooster we had was a similar hoodlum. He was protective of not only the hens but of their eggs as well. It usually took two of us to collect the eggs. One to distract the rooster and one to collect the eggs.

To give the emery folk credit, who wouldn’t be scared of a walking beak that only comes up to your legs. I know I am!

Haha! It’s mostly quite peaceful – sort of!
Most birds react with that behavior but it’s to keep others away, deterring any others for their own defense and safety. It’s not that they’re becoming psychotic! 🙂

I hope you are right. Baby Turkey scares the Emerys so much, they run backwards to get away from her. She is getting like Godfrey. You are right – none of the birds are psychotic – I think that might be me – hehe!

I have heard that turkeys can be very territorial. There was a story about one that terrorized a long island neighborhood up here – apparently the turkey attacked a mailman or FedEx guy and the copes were called. The cops ended up shooting the Turkey because they said it was attacking them – well that was their story but I think they were just scared of the turkey. Poor turkey, he was just defending his turf.

I know, they was a huge uproar about it, everyone was soooo mad at the cops. They were making fun of them for being scared of a turkey.

All I can say is thank goodness I don’t have turkeys – it’s bad enough visiting my brother’s farm and they only have one turkey.

Yes, everyone is a bit nervous of the turkeys because they run up to people like little puppies do – except they’re bigger!
