I just figured out why there is suddenly so much squabbling amongst our birds; there are too many males! I decided to do a count today and here are the statistics:
- four roosters (no hens);
- one golden pheasant (no females);
- ten peacocks (five peahens);
- two drakes (two ducks);
- five ganders (two geese);
- one emu (two emuettes);
- two turkey toms (one female); and
- one weiro.
The fact that we also have two male alpacas and two male dogs means that, if you include Son and me in the equation, and not counting the twelve gender-defying guinnea fowl, we roughly have a ratio of 3 to 1 in favour of the male presence here. It is definitely time to get some more hens!
I figure if there is more of a female presence here, Godfrey will stop trying to lord it over me!
Note: We did have a lot of hens but the fox got them so now I have a better yard, with higher fences. I hope this works!

uh oh — too many males ~ testosterone abundance? LOL!! Will be interesting to see what happens when the new hens arrive!! 🙂
yes….
It’s a man’s world all right. You’ve got to do something to correct that.
Definitely!!
Sounds like you could start a male voice choir! Hope that you succeed in balancing the inequalities very soon, and peace will be restored.
Definite inbalance. My zoo goes the other way. That is why I got Nine, the mischievious boy kitty, because 3 of my male animals past last year, leaving all the women, who were in charge anyway, but could definitely get pretty out of hand.
Nine – hehe – great name! I hope he lives up to it!
What a photograph you captured… WOW! You are amazing dear Julie… Thanks and Love, nia
Godrey used to love me too!!!
…. 🙂 I can’t think anyone who doesn’t love you… Love, nia
I do have a couple of enemies but we won’t go there – hehe!
I hope Godfrey has been consulted in your plans.
No way!
As if you don’t have enough to deal with – now you have the avian gender wars, too!
hehe!
Looks like Godfrey strongly agrees on the need for a balance of the sexes.
Maybe that is why he is always so cantankerous!
Too bad we aren’t neighbors. I could have at least helped you out with the geese, and saved $70 dollars in the bargain! 😉

ha
Move over ‘boys’ – there’s one Spring Chicken here in Melbourne who sure does like those odds. LOL
You are a tonic!
I have been following your blogs. Had to interject on this one…with 2 boys, 3 step-sons and a barn full of beef steers the only estrogen I can get is if I fly to Florida to visit my daughter — or take a walk out to the pasture fields to talk to all the females who are part of the breeding herd !
Oh you are so funny! Why don’t you get a little female dog?
Good lot of animals you have. Foxes are a pest. I get wakened every night by them.
They got introduced here in colonial times and have become a massive problem – argh!
We’ll come for a visit to up the female ratio 🙂
Bella and DiDi
Yay!
Oh my Julie, you surely are outnumbered. You definitely have to make some adjustments, LOL! Margie
Definitely!

I don’t know. In my experience with crowds of females they can be just as bad – if not worse!
In the human sense that is sooooooooooooo true! I think we are both speaking from experience – hehe!
One good queen can keep the boys in line. Just leave it to a woman.
I think we need a match for Godfrey! We will call her Goddess!
