Oh, the beautiful peas!

on May 18, 2012

King is our only adult peacock (not counting Queenie, his wife, who is a peahen) and, as some of you may recall, he moulted his magnificent tail feathers some time ago and is only now gradually growing them back. Until that happens, he prefers me to just take head shots. This photo is of him looking at himself longingly in the back veranda window reflection, wondering when he will get those feathers back!

And the following photo is of him flaunting himself (a few months ago) in a winning competition with our adolescent white peacock.

Unfortunately for King, the white peacock’s tail feathers are growing faster (perhaps because these will be his first?) This is him now.

I can’t wait to take a photo of this guy doing his display thing! It won’t be long….

  1. What beautiful birds. And I love their call.

  2. Amazingly Brilliant colors! Do you sell those feathers that he moults? I think you could get a pretty penny here in Oregon. They still are so stunning in home decor even though they were all the rage some 40 yrs ago..

I haven’t sold any yet but have heaps of them! Come over and I’ll put the kettle on and you can take your pick!

      • Oh how I’d love to just sit and have a cuppa with you and some good old fashion girl talk. Who needs feathers when there is all that instead? (*+*) We’d talk well into the morning light I have little doubt, maybe taking time to breath and eat something just for energy sake. What a fin dream!

To be honest the ideas are flying high with my creative wings, soaring through one idea after another with feathers in mind. How amazing that heap must be with colors and textures peeking through~

I’m looking forward to a photo of that beautiful white peacock’s fully grown feathers in a fan display. It is sure to be a winner.

    Hi,
It’s a shame they loose their feathers, I wonder if it feel strange to them when that happens, all of a sudden no tail to fan out. I also assume they must feel extra special when they do get the tail feathers back again. 🙂

It would be a fantastic photo if you could get the pair of them showing off their tails, the contrast in colour would be spectacular. 🙂
