Anthony and I visited Arthur today in the hostel where he has temporarily been placed.
We wanted to see if he was okay and we were both relieved to find that he was much more than okay; he thought he had died and gone to heaven! Not really, of course, but for this decrepit old man to move from a decrepit old hut to a nice warm room with lots of friendly people, lots of regular meals and attentive carers is like, in his words, “a luxury holiday!”
Arthur doesn’t seem to miss Tina Turner at all! I can’t imagine why….
good news for Arthur!
Fingers crossed the arrangement will become permanent – he loves it there!
One man’s idea of luxury can be another man’s idea of hell. When I was young I stayed with my relatives in Lochranza on the north of the Isle of Arran during the school holidays.
There was no TV because the island could not get a good signal, the radio was very poor, no chip shop or ice cream shop, no cinema, no hairdresser etc. it had an ancient castle which was a ruin, a church, a village hall, a small shop and a hotel with a pub attached.
The main entertainment was a céilidh (Gaelic gathering) at the weekends, a film night on Wednesday nights when a projector beamed a film on a screen, a chip van on a Friday night selling chips and the regular pub ‘lock-ins’.
To the locals who lived there all the time the céilidh, film night, chip van and pub lock-ins were a luxury. To a city girl from the West End of Glasgow where the shops, pubs, cafes never close it was a bit basic, but I loved it all the same.
Thanks ‘Anonymous’!
Oh, I’m so glad to hear that all is well – at least for now! First impressions mean a lot, though. If he’s happy now, he may stay (relatively) happy!
I hope it lasts!
So it was a good move for him. You did right in making it happen.
i am happy that he is happy!
How awesome for Arthur that he has people who care. It’s one of my biggest pet peeves. Older people being alone. here is no reason for it. Brava you Jules & Anthony for making sure he;s okay.
Such a relief!
So happy for him…and for you!
Yes – hopefully it will be made a permanent arrangement.
He sounds like he’s happy. Hooray!
I just hope they can make it permanent for his sake (and mine!)
Yay for Arthur. Fingers, toes, and eyes…all crossed! makes it damned hard to write, but what the hell.
Your comment made me laugh!
🙂
Hi,
Sounds like he is more than happy. 🙂
Very!
That is good news for all of you, Julie
A relief in more ways than one.
It’s so good he’s in a comfortable and caring place!
I should have done it earlier!
I’m so glad Arthur is happy!
We are too – it is a great relief!
Wonderful. Love that picture. Looks like both the bird and the man seem to be conveying a bit of disdain for the other!
Hehe!
