‘Shit happens’

on July 5, 2012

Okay, firstly, I didn’t say that; it’s a popular quote and is a perfect descriptor of how life can pan out, regardless of hopes, prayers and …. well, we all know. In fact, it is a fact of life and it doesn’t necessarily come with any warning on the packet.

‘Shit happens’ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shit_happens

I’m not a huge wikipedia fan but sometimes it is handy, as in the above definition/history of the quote.

‘Shit happens’ is an existential type of concept in the sense that, despite trying to be a good person and trying to make your own life work out in the hope that you can control its meanderings and tame the hardships into something manageable, you can’t always do that. I don’t think you can manage fate when it comes to bite you at the end of a life (Anthony).

It is possible, however, that you can manage fate at the beginning of a life (Ming). I don’t know.

Shit doesn’t always happen?

Note: Apologies for offensive language, if you were offended!

  1. Not offended at all. I even stepped in some (doggie doo) out in the garden today. What’s the big deal? I had open-toed sandals on. 😉

Ming has awesome energy in this image!! Great shot too – did you take?
Yes Shit happens… it really does — for some more shit than for others, but we all get our shit.
🙂 forgive my curses now — 3 in a row…. Wish we had more control … really do… hang in – and Go Ming! He looks “in the zone” here 😉 xo

Yes! Shit happens. I think that’s one of life’s challenges–to realize that we really don’t have anything “locked down”, that the only thing we have is this moment, and we’d better take all of that and embrace it, use it, because tomorrow someone wil get sick, die, locircumstances will be different, & if we don’t embrace what we have today, we won’t have the same chances tomorrow to do that. Yes, shit happens.

  4. what else can I say – you covered it all – sometimes it happens, sometime it doesn’t and we have absolutely no control over any of it

I love that you put the wiki link for this phrase’s history on here Jules. Only you! And good grief…sometimes no other phrase will do. “SHIT HAPPENS” Damn right and when I find myself in a place where this feeling applies…I usually follow it with “and it SUCKS ASS”. Oh well, suppose I too should ask forgiveness for the language, but I wouldn’t mean it.

  9. Shit happens! That’s how life is! It throws some shit at you in the face of the most perfect day! 😉

Not a bit offended, because it’s a perfect definition of when your life plans to go to hell in a hand basket.

  12. Shit happens, and you’ve had a lot more shit to deal with than most people at this point. That’s something I teach my kids (language included). Shit happens and all that matters is how you deal with it. Some times are very difficult and for others, you realize the shit is not so bad so there’s no need to make a big deal out of it. I see so many parents to try to sugar coat it for their kids, it’s not helping them become resilient as they grow up. Learning how to deal with shit is a priceless life skill.

Bless Perfecting Motherhood for such a great perspective! She’s right on. Knowing how to deal with the crud of life makes it all more bearable, and if we teach our kids that lesson (as we learn, too), they receive a greater benefit. Very wise, Motherhood.

I forgot to say how handsome Ming is doing his music thing. Personally, I fell for a drummer.

You really are too funny! It happens to me all the time. I love this photo of Ming and I am so glad you shared it with us. Too bad we can’t have a listen as well.
