I love having birds around. Used to have chickens, ducks, and pheasants (tried guineas but they hatched too late in the year and didn’t make it – too cold). Loved them all. Now I just have songbirds around.
how many of your animals will come to you when you are outside? do they behave friendly, or eat from your hands? i loved the top photo, the shadows bouncing off the color, the darkness laid against the light. awesome photos!
i have had four pets that i loved so much, the last one, having had to give it to my son. i looked it up one time but now forget the legal word, but Al does as much to a pet to see how close he can come without actually hurting it. i have seen him trying to stick his fingers in our last pets eyes, not actually doing it, but micro seconds from doing it, all kinds of stuff. if i ever end up alone, a pet is the second on my to do list
now that is something i would love to have. a bird that i can talk to and it can talk back
it isn’t that Al doesn’t like animals, he has something in his brain to torment them, and then does or doesn’t understand why they do not want to sit on his lap. sometimes i think he is a child, that is just picking on these pets, to see if he can get by with it, but it stresses me out and forces me to add one more thing to have to be concerned with, watching Al to make sure pets are safe, but the bird? i would love if i could get the whole deal set up. i imagine it is very costly
Over here you can get a cage and a hand-reared bird (one who will come out of its cage and feed from your hand and perch on your shoulder) quite inexpensively. Check out doudou.com
Yes, they are like a constant comedy show. Even when I am inside I can hear the constant arguments between the geese and the peafowl – honk, honk, honk!
🙂 I always wondered what a paddock looked like!!! haha Whew – I bet you spend more on your bird food than your own food bill! My daughter has chickens. Gosh, they are so much fun to watch, so I know your viewing pleasure is multiplied. I was wondering if the white bird drowned in the bucket.
I hope your weekend is peaceful. Sending you big Texas prayers! XO
These are fabulous views into your menagerie Jules. How utterly beautiful. I am awe struck by it truly. I have a pretty good imagination, but to imagine sitting outside on any afternoon and seeing what you have shown, well…it is beyond what I could have imagined. Give me some tucker and it’s dinner and a show! Love it
Thanks Rhonda! Even though I’m not a photographer, I did want to try and capture pictures of what it is like at feeding time. Glad it worked – it is rather a magical hour. Jx
Love the photos of the birds but do they make a lot of noise………..yes I know not the point of the photos Jo-Anne but that is the way my mind works well when it is working often my mind is asleep and my fingers just type whatever they like ok off topic Jo-Anne………….]
The birds really do look different in that late afternoon light. I still can’t quite get over the variety you have, or how beautiful they are. The photo of the peacock atop the cage is especially nice. Its colors just glow in the light.

I mostly just buy huge sacks of wheat – not that expensive (although Ming would disagree – he has become rather autocratic!)
love the birds in their environment of trees with the lines of the branches and afternoon light.
Too bad you can’t come over here and take some proper photos of the birds.
after this last trip definitely out of the question-but nice thought, thank you
Always welcome!
