Moments of pure joy

on August 8, 2012
  • When you ring the electricity people to pay the phenomenal bill and the guy says you are in credit by over $700
  • When you take one of the pillows that your blogging friend from Turkey has given you, and you put it behind your husband’s back in the nursing lodge, and he sighs with pleasure
  • When your oldest niece, who is getting married soon at a castle in Scotland, emails you asking if you would write something for the wedding because she knows you can’t come over
  • When you finish all the blasted paperworky, redtapey, billy, taxy crap
  • When your friend comes over with a fold-up massage table and says she is going to give you a massage and you say you would rather be dead, and she doesn’t mind and gives your son the massage instead
  • When the damaged wing mirror on your car that was going to cost over $1,000 is fixed in 15 minutes by your friend
  • When one of the nurses looking after your husband says she read the thank you note you wrote to the staff, and loved it
  • When someone  you haven’t seen for decades finds you on facebook
  • When you finally finish the folding but still can’t find the iron
  • When, in a cupboard, you discover the gorgeous Italian boots your husband bought you years ago in a fit of extravagance, and you put them on your feet for the first time
  • When your son is angry that you have run out of cereal again and you calmly show him the 10 packets of weetbix in the pantry
  • When you realize that you don’t ever want to find the iron anyway
  • When one of your dogs snuggles happily into your armpit
  • When your son takes over all of the outside jobs but doesn’t tell you off for being behind with the inside jobs
  • When you find a new makeup to obliterate the circles under your eyes
  • When you laugh more times than you cry
  • When you remember something beautiful
  • When you think about planting sunflowers
  • When you see comments from bloggers who you may never meet but with whom you are now connected
  • When you find the gifts you got weeks ago but forgot to give your little, newly christened nephew and niece
  • When you look at the sunset
  • When you find out that the house isn’t riddled with white ants after all
  • When you rediscover prayer in a feather – or two

And all of that joy happened in just 24 hours!

Life is filled with Joy in the simple pleasures of just living day by day. Live in the Moment and live Mindfully and you’ll always be Happy (even in the face of adversity).

Julie, you have such a beautiful sense of humour – no wonder everyone loves you. I love the 10 boxes of Weetbix item.

  4. what a wonderful post — you and I are alike in many ways:
    1. I do not like massages
    2. our truck mirror is broken – how was your car mirror fixed
    3. I am behind in my bills but do not think the electricity people are going to tell me I have a credit when they come to turn it off (okay so that is not alike)
    4. I know I am going to be happy when I have all the stupid bookwork done (I wonder how the heck this fell to me–and english and communications grad with grade 10 math!)
anyway I will not bore you any further – I am just so glad you had a wonderful 24 hours! -LouAnn

  5. boy, I hate it when I read my comment over after pressing send and find an error “an english” not and english–I know you know this, but it bugs me –and that is only the errors I do find – lol – wishing you a life filled with what the last 24 hours were filled with

And how happy I am that it did.. lifts you up, it does… that ironing thingy… throw it away.. people look much better when a little rumpled then you feel you can give them a hug… when they are all smooth and clean looking you shake their hand… and boy a sunset can cure anything if you just stand and take in the beauty and forget about everything else… bathe in the setting suns rays in a calm and serene way, and the make up to obliterate the circles under the eyes will not be needed…Have a good day… my Aussie friend.. have a good day…

I used to have all these white cotton and linen shirts for work and it was a nightmare so I gave them all to my mother who doesn’t mind ironing. Ever since then I have worn clothes (even to work) than do not require ironing – oh the freedom!!!!!!!

I feel moments of joy… when I come here and read about you and your life and the people and beautiful creatures in it and see the photos
when I smile because I’m here, writing to you knowing you are there

    and… I love massages. didn’t used to. and now I do 🙂

This is a beautiful list and that last one….. sigh…. reading it…. peace descends

Oh you should see these boots – you would love them – I will take a photo. They are black rubber on the foot bit and beautiful brown leather on the leg bit (like a fancy wellington boot)!

Wow ….. I hope you soaked it all up and still feel the taste of it. Can’t remember that some much joy has ever come to me in a day, so happy for you – but yesterday I found a couple moment of joy in my Tuna Salad .. found a beautiful piece of music online – and I have done my ironing.
Thanks for letting me share your joy. It made me feel good too.

  13. The important thing is that you notice these positive things. Many people only look for the negative and the good part of life passes them by.

Instead of putting your chin a beer foam (afraid it’s where I will be) you find the things in your life that make you feel good and you’re glad aboiut them. Healthy, really healthy! Oh Yuck!

I was just going to say by the way, who needs an iron?
