- When you ring the electricity people to pay the phenomenal bill and the guy says you are in credit by over $700
- When you take one of the pillows that your blogging friend from Turkey has given you, and you put it behind your husband’s back in the nursing lodge, and he sighs with pleasure
- When your oldest niece, who is getting married soon at a castle in Scotland, emails you asking if you would write something for the wedding because she knows you can’t come over
- When you finish all the blasted paperworky, redtapey, billy, taxy crap
- When your friend comes over with a fold-up massage table and says she is going to give you a massage and you say you would rather be dead, and she doesn’t mind and gives your son the massage instead
- When the damaged wing mirror on your car that was going to cost over $1,000 is fixed in 15 minutes by your friend
- When one of the nurses looking after your husband says she read the thank you note you wrote to the staff, and loved it
- When someone you haven’t seen for decades finds you on facebook
- When you finally finish the folding but still can’t find the iron
- When, in a cupboard, you discover the gorgeous Italian boots your husband bought you years ago in a fit of extravagance, and you put them on your feet for the first time
- When your son is angry that you have run out of cereal again and you calmly show him the 10 packets of weetbix in the pantry
- When you realize that you don’t ever want to find the iron anyway
- When one of your dogs snuggles happily into your armpit
- When your son takes over all of the outside jobs but doesn’t tell you off for being behind with the inside jobs
- When you find a new makeup to obliterate the circles under your eyes
- When you laugh more times than you cry
- When you remember something beautiful
- When you think about planting sunflowers
- When you see comments from bloggers who you may never meet but with whom you are now connected
- When you find the gifts you got weeks ago but forgot to give your little, newly christened nephew and niece
- When you look at the sunset
- When you find out that the house isn’t riddled with white ants after all
- When you rediscover prayer in a feather – or two
And all of that joy happened in just 24 hours!
blessed are those who know to count and be aware of the little blessings and joys. I’m happy for you Julie xo
Thanks Diana – I am learning how to be more thankful, thanks to cauldrons&cupcakes blog.
I have begun to begin to be more thankful!
You’ve done the next best thing to bottling happiness, you’ve fixed it in words! Remember to visit this post often, especially hen the tally isn’t so great.
That is a very good idea!
Life is filled with Joy in the simple pleasures of just living day by day. Live in the Moment and live Mindfully and you’ll always be Happy (even in the face of adversity).
Julie, you have such a beautiful sense of humour – no wonder everyone loves you. I love the 10 boxes of Weetbix item.
Oh no – Ming has just summoned me for a talk (I think this means I am going to be told off so wish me luck!!!)
what a wonderful post — you and I are alike in many ways:
1. I do not like massages
2. our truck mirror is broken – how was your car mirror fixed
3. I am behind in my bills but do not think the electricity people are going to tell me I have a credit when they come to turn it off (okay so that is not alike)
4. I know I am going to be happy when I have all the stupid bookwork done (I wonder how the heck this fell to me–and english and communications grad with grade 10 math!)
anyway I will not bore you any further – I am just so glad you had a wonderful 24 hours! -LouAnn
Oh LouAnn – we are definitely alike but we may be the only two people in the world who don’t like massages – ha! Oh, re the mirror, I have no idea how he fixed it as I was too busy having a drink with his wife!
and that is where you should have been!
boy, I hate it when I read my comment over after pressing send and find an error “an english” not and english–I know you know this, but it bugs me –and that is only the errors I do find – lol – wishing you a life filled with what the last 24 hours were filled with
I didn’t even notice – sillybilly!
And how happy I am that it did.. lifts you up, it does… that ironing thingy… throw it away.. people look much better when a little rumpled then you feel you can give them a hug… when they are all smooth and clean looking you shake their hand… and boy a sunset can cure anything if you just stand and take in the beauty and forget about everything else… bathe in the setting suns rays in a calm and serene way, and the make up to obliterate the circles under the eyes will not be needed…Have a good day… my Aussie friend.. have a good day…
You are such a fantastic person! Thank you for this beautiful comment.
this is so beautiful, what a magnificent life!
Yes, I thought it was about time I acknowledged that!
well my friend, u just showed me the beauty of your life. i m trying to be more like you, finding joy that i have or things i loved
That is so ironic because I am trying to be more like you!!!
Wonderful. I hate to iron. 🙂
I used to have all these white cotton and linen shirts for work and it was a nightmare so I gave them all to my mother who doesn’t mind ironing. Ever since then I have worn clothes (even to work) than do not require ironing – oh the freedom!!!!!!!
I feel moments of joy… when I come here and read about you and your life and the people and beautiful creatures in it and see the photos
when I smile because I’m here, writing to you knowing you are there
and… I love massages. didn’t used to. and now I do 🙂
This is a beautiful list and that last one….. sigh…. reading it…. peace descends
Louise – thank you so much!!!
Hope it stretches to a couple of weeks. Or at least, a couple of days.
Like bubble gum!
Awesome. i hate massages too. But I love boots!! And birds..c
Oh you should see these boots – you would love them – I will take a photo. They are black rubber on the foot bit and beautiful brown leather on the leg bit (like a fancy wellington boot)!
Wow ….. I hope you soaked it all up and still feel the taste of it. Can’t remember that some much joy has ever come to me in a day, so happy for you – but yesterday I found a couple moment of joy in my Tuna Salad .. found a beautiful piece of music online – and I have done my ironing.
Thanks for letting me share your joy. It made me feel good too.
Your tuna salad? Wonderful – that is what I will make tomorrow – thanks Viveka!
Yes, only make one model … here is the link – http://wp.me/p293Pw-2wj
I’m not sure why I didn’t see this before – wonderful recipe and so many thanks!
Yes, you have …comment on it. It was one of my leftover moments. *smile
I am getting very forgetful – ha!
Yes, only 5 mins ago … *smile … join the club.
I think I must be following too many blogs or else going a little wonky in the head – hahaha!
Could be a reason good enough – mix up names when I replay – call Tilly for Terry and the other way around.
Me too! Loveya Viveka.
I was wrong .. it was another Jo. You haven’t seen it before.
What?
Regarding that you hadn’t seen the recipe before.
Oh sorry – I am so stupid!
Wouldn’t call you stupid … because that means I’m stupid too.
That’s true – let’s just say we are both absolutely gorgeous!
The important thing is that you notice these positive things. Many people only look for the negative and the good part of life passes them by.
I am getting better at it!
Beautiful Julie — the last line got me 🙂 xo Loved ~
I am going to send you a feather soon!
🙂
Excellent list. I hope your son enjoyed the massage. He’ll need it if he doing all the outside jobs.
Ming is good the way he will do almost anything – very outgoing!

And what a great 24hrs it sounds like, me I find moments of joy when I read so manu great blogs each day and laugh and cry and feel so connceted to people who I will never meet but who I consider friends……….
Exactly – it is incredible!
I Love You
Aw shucks!
You go Jules! Love you for finding all these glad things. Glad things are things that you have to be glad about.
Instead of putting your chin a beer foam (afraid it’s where I will be) you find the things in your life that make you feel good and you’re glad aboiut them. Healthy, really healthy! Oh Yuck!
I was just going to say by the way, who needs an iron?
Hugs and have a truly boadacious day ~ BB
What does putting your chin in a beer foam mean? Boadiciously yours!
I don’t know what is wrong with me…like you should know that. I am sorry Jules.
It means crying in your beer, At least it did to my dad anyway…LOL..
Hilarious!!!
What a fabulous 24 hours! You deserve it all.
Thanks for leaving me smiling 😀
You’re welcome!
What a great day!
Yes!
Really like this, Julie. i enjoyed reading every one and I remembered to take the time to do my own gratitude list. Thanks.
I was becoming a whinger so I thought I better change!
You inspire me with your awesome joy list! Individually each item may be an easily overlooked joy, but together they make for an impressive amount of smiles, chuckles and even laughs. Thanks for sharing!
I should try to do this for myself every day but I keep forgetting!
Now, that is a good day!!
