Spring storms

on September 21, 2012

It is the third week of Spring over here in the southwest of Western Australia and we have only had one week of sunshine. Today the winds are whipping up, the rain is relentless and the forecast for tonight includes gusts of 100kms – mmm.

The animals get nervous when it’s like this and so do I!

Yesterday, some guys I’ve never met before arrived to chainsaw and clean up the debris of fallen wattle trees from the last storm. In a couple of hours they did what seemed to me to be an insurmountable task and they didn’t even charge very much. They said that if we had another storm, the remaining old trees at the back might fall over too because they are ant-ridden.  There was no sign of today’s storm yesterday – weird!

I think Ming may have organized for them to come (he is very keen to be the man of the house!) but when I asked the main guy, he said, “God sent me!”

I wasn’t sure whether he was joking or serious so I just shook his hand – mmmm!

God moves in mysterious ways 🙂 I need to do the same here in preparation for winter – can you send the chainsaw guys my way?

Love the photos. 🙂 Those wind speeds sound horrific. I;m impressed at the speed with with your Workers got that job done. Over here, it would take a week.

that is awesome, no matter who sent them, you are so thankful…………….

What a blessing! It must have been a God thing for them to show up just when you needed them. Send them on over. I need their services since I have about 13 trees that have died from the drought. 🙂

We finally got a couple of drops of rain today… but only a couple. We desperately need some rain.

  8. So like my snow angels that showed a couple years ago. Two guys on a Catepillar snow plow, dug out my drive way of 3 plus feet of snow, created a path to the house stairs. No clue who they were, even a newspaper article publicly thanking them failed to surface who they were.

God? the universe?… though doubt it was Ming in my case… I was just thankful as I know you.are.

Its kind of wonderful to be so blessed once in awhile ~

Love the photo of the swans in the water – you sure have interesting animals as pets 🙂

  12. Great pictures! Seems to me you have a lot of drastic weather there! Recently we had winds at 100k too though…weird weather. Hope all the animals survived the storm!

God is such a thinker, isn’t God?

  14. nice to have God on your side

  15. Wow–those winds sound scary–do not blame you and the critters for being nervous!

  16. Judith Post says:

Workmen from heaven works for me! Good luck with your weather.

  17. As long as those people were not “Amish” gypsies that try to rob you, I think you’re OK! They take advantage of old people here, it’s scary.

Wow! love that God sent him! What a blessing. Your Critters are SOOOoo cute. 🙂

  19. viveka says:

Some stunning animals …. cute looking too. We have stormy weather too tonight – but not that bad as 100km/hr – God help. Whatever – if God had sent the guy or not .. he must have been a blessing .. *smile

Ah ha! A mystery. Maybe a gift from a religious neighbour? or Anthony had a clear moment and called them up.( and has gone from royalty to the really big guy?)Yes,creatures do look worried. Batten down the hatches, find the candles and get out the board games. And be safe, all of you.i always find these times exciting and scary.

Today is our first day of Fall. Funny to think about our seasons being opposite. Stay safe in the storm!

Did you survive ok? Still got your electricity? You’re exactly right about the animals getting nervous when storms are coming. The strangest thing here is that the wild birds and critters just disappear. It was so strange after Hurricane Ike – there wasn’t a sound. Even the fish were gone. There wasn’t a cricket, a bird call – nothing, for about 2-3 weeks. Finally, the world started sorting itself out.

I hope all’s well. Spring storms can be big ones, here. I imagine it’s the same there.

  23. It must take some getting use to the fact that Ants isn’t there to help you

In California the winds took out our fences and ripped the shingles and tar paper off our roofs. Here the wind, with the help of heavy rain, topples our trees and electrical wires. Nature can be a force to be reckoned with.

It is strange too, that we have so much wildlife all around us and can become deaf to their sounds and song. Yet, just let a storm front move in, and it is the silence that first alerts us to its pending arrival. The the chickens huddle in their covered run, and the wild birds are absolutely silent! (My geese are absolutely impervious to anything but giant hailstones falling from the sky! Only then will they run for cover under the trees.)

  25. Wow! That is really wonderful of them – no matter who sent them!

  26. hugr5 says:

Do you lose electricity in these storms? Is it always like that (the storms you’ve described) in Australia, or is this unusual? I know that a fierce storm can be frightening. I think of them as Nature’s way of “cleaning house.” Sometimes I’ll sit on my sofa, in my livingroom and pray as the winds dance on my roof – mean drumbeat. What I pray is “PLEASE DON’T HURT ME.” Living in a mobile home does not make me feel secure when there are bad storms!

    Take care!
