The three people I see most of are Anthony, my mother and Ming of course. For some reason I sometimes get their names confused, as if they are identical triplets or something. So I will often call Ming ‘Ants’ and vice versa, but I have also called Ants ‘Mother’ a few times and called my mother ‘Ming’. Do other people do this?
Anyway, last night, just before Ming went off to his shed to go to bed, he gave me a big hug and I said, “You are such a beautiful son,” and he said, “That’s because I’m your mum.”
Obviously he’d meant to say, “That’s because you’re my mum,” but he got the words the wrong way around just like I get the names the wrong way around.
After we stopped laughing hysterically, he left for his shed and, hearing his footsteps outside my office door, I shouted, “G’night Mummy!” and he shouted back, “G’night, darling!”
Still laughing about it!
My grandmother (dad’s side) had 8 children and always got the names mixed up. You always knew who she was talking about, though.
She was a very clever mathematician and wrote textbooks on Boolean Algebra and other mathematical things and a bit eccentric.
Eccentric people are my favourites.
Do it all the time. You are not alone.
Phew!
That’s a good one! When I had two cats and two kids, I got everybody’s names all confused. Now I only have the kids and I still get it wrong half the time. Sleep deprivation likes to play tricks on me.
Glad to hear I am not the only one!
Oh, so it’s not just because we’re getting old(er).
Of course not – older? No way – not you and me!
don’t forget Ming! Ha Ha.
That’s very funny!
It was!
Laughing still. When my parents were alive my dad was Geoffrey, my brother was Geoffrey and my half brother was Geoffrey, My parents had a sense of humour. you can imagine but on top of it, my initial is G and my other brother was with another initial of G and when letters arrived addressed with ‘To Mr G C,,,,, we used to fight over it. Quite amusing at the time.
Funny about names……cobbies69.
My name & initials are V. A. Alford (Australian) and I worked for a lady in London called V. A. Walford. One always had to look twice at the mail.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! That was lovely!
And yes I always mix up names. It’s hereditary. Mom used to get our 8 names mixed up with her 10 siblings names! Finally she would say “damnit you know who you are!” 🙂
adorable 🙂
those moments are precious
I’m glad to read this… I do it often calling my one daughter by the others name… but then I’m so bad at remembering names that some mornings I get up, look in the mirror and ask the image “whats you name again?”
ROFL….I do that all the time. Usually met with a roll of the eyes or a bit of laughter, until the dog’s name came into the picture! Yikes…how bad is THAT? Glad to see you both laughing…it’s the best part of any day! xoxo
It’s so good when you have a good laugh like that…. and I think it’s healing in many ways..Diane
those are the memories that you will always look back on and smile. Loved this post!
Yes, Julie, other people do this. I made my big mistake when I named two of my sons names beginning with D (Doug and Dan) and of course there is Dad. So, I run down the list “Dan, Doug, Dad…
I do it but it’s with my little sister and the baby girl. My grandmother did it all the time but she had dozens of grandkids, so we let it go. lol My mother does it with her grandkids and she only has four, No Excuse! Hee, hee, I’m being mean, my poor mom. It just shows that they are always near your heart at all times.
My mother once came out of the house looking for me and shouted the names of my four siblings and included the dog before she got round to mine.
sigh … love this …. just simple and sweet – would love to hear the same words!
When my mom was angry with me she would call me Heinz, Michael, Diana! My Dad’s name, then my brother’s and then with increased anger, as if it was my fault she got the names wrong – my name!
Diana xo
Ha ha. That’s cute!
Great story! It’s always good when the kids mess up so they can’t tease us quite as much when we do. 🙂
Julie, my mother used to mix up our names when we were grown up (there were four of us) and now I do that too with my pets. (no children here) It drives me wild when I do it! 😉
Julie, Clearly whatever you have is contagious (i have it too) LOL LOL LOL. But the meaning and the thoughts come thru so very clearly. That’s the cool part. Take care, Bill
That’s SO cute! I mix up the names in my family all the time 😉
😆
So sweet!
Haha – how funny, the two of you 🙂
The best laughs are always accidental. Lovely story 🙂
Hope all goes well with the appointment.
See, that’s sweet and funny! What’s not considered funny, apparently, is when you are yelling at your dog and you call him your child’s name. Not that I’ve ever done that…
Too funny 🙂
