Phoenix 1 (our golden pheasant) and King (our adult peacock) were perched together, but not together, in the avocado tree the other afternoon so here is a series of not-very-successful pictures of them. When I say ‘not-very-successful’, I mean that, despite my amazing photographic abilities (ha!) neither would look at me and pose properly. I will have to send them back to modelling school. Their contrasting colours are lovely though, and I will keep trying to get better photos of them now that they have developed this habit of hanging out together.
Oh, yeah, and who was it who said that “if at first…” thing?

Wow what brilliant and rich colours! I think I’ll use similar colours to redecorate my bedroom!
You are so funny!
I try 😉 but I was semi-serious!
I am no interior decorator but the colours might drive you mad – I like white walls = boring!
Is it not amazing how un co-operative animals and birds can be? I have a favorite photo of ground squirrels standing on their hind legs all with their head turned in one direction, not my photo unfortunately, how I’ve tried to emulate that photo and nothing will ever go right.
However I agree with you, the contrasting colors of the two bids still makes for a wonderful photo.
Thanks bulldog – I had a few more of these photos but I thought that was enough. I am going to get them both looking into the lens if it kills me – hehe!
Hi,
Their colours look magnificent against the tree, they certainly are beautiful, what a shame they would not look your way, still nice photos though. 🙂
WE Hickson said, “If at first you don’t succeed try, try again.” He actually said a bit more than that, but I don’t understand the relevance of the last line… Maybe you can figure it out if you look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Edward_Hickson
Oh yes, and I spotted another avocado! 😉
OK – I checked out that link but what does the reference to Geoff and Camilla mean?
Sorry if this is a stupid question!
That is what I was asking you! LOL! So, no (cough) it is not a stupid question! 😉

Absolutely stunning shots! 🙂
*hugs*
Thanks, but I want to get it better – I am not a photographer you see – not yet!!!
Well it looks llike King (?) is trying for you. The other one not so much, You were so able to pick up their amazing contrast, and their colors against the deep green of the tree foilage is amazing~
Keep up the good work Jules~
They are cute in their reluctance to be fashion models!! 🙂
It’s a good thing we’ve gone digital. In the old days of film cameras it would have cost a small fortune to keep clicking while the birds learn their modeling lessons.
That’ll do Julie, that’ll do…:)
What a great tree! Avocados (which I love), a golden pheasant, and a peacock. All I have is a Chinese elm with squirrels.
Maybe we should do a house swap – ha! I love squirrels but we don’t have them here.
You captured such a beautiful colours(birds) together you are amazing. And also you made me smile too. Thank you dear Julie, with my love, nia
Thanks – I am so lucky to have these birds!
Birds, they’re so tempramental! I’d love to see the two of them nearer each other, the colors of each are so brilliant.
I’ll tell them!
That’s great! Looks like peacock is making more of an attempt at cooperating than the pheasant.
They are indeed fabulous colours. ‘If at first you don’t succeed…’ is attributed to Robert the Bruce. But what does he know, he never tried to photograph a peacock!
Aha!
