Blogomania!

on May 9, 2012

I have now unsubscribed from all blogs, including non-wordpress blogs, to give myself a break, because I was spending more time reading than writing (a common blogging dilemma). So then, I began to copy/paste your urls into a blogroll which can now be seen on the right hand side of my posts. I haven’t done everyone’s because I had to be a bit ruthless in unsubscribing from relatively inactive blogs, some gardening blogs and some photography blogs (the latter because I am hopeless at gardening and my photographic abilities are so-far pretty limited).

I have also decided to break my own rule of one post per day if I feel like it (as in this second post for the day). Like Jane said, write when you feel like it, so I will and I certainly don’t want to write another blog post about blogging – it seems too much like a dog chasing its tail!

The blogroll I’ve begun is a thrill because not only can you guys see other fantastic blogs, but I can delve in whenever I please instead of gettingall the emails. Oh dear, I hope I have done the right thing!

You are totally doing the right thing. All this social media and subscribing puts so much pressure on ourselves to be obligated to engage, in particular to read. It’s as if you feel the burden of commitment. I can imagine howit weighs you down. Hooray for you for figuring it out and coming up with a game plan!

I think you have done the right thing. I’m swamped too and have been trying to figure out a solution (well…wait for you to figure out a plan and then follow your plan!)

You are on my blogroll list – absolutely – I could not do without you! You can see your name on the list at right hand side of my posts.

Yes, you have DEFINITELY done the right thing.

I was addicted to posting 1-3 photos every day and now I realise how tedious it was for my followers and also how much time I was spending acknowledging each comment, so I have ‘turned over a new leaf/habit’ also. I have been getting my old bad headaches back. Too much computer work.

I am trying to spend more time doing non-computer activities.

It’s a fine line to tread. Keeping in touch with people on the computer, delving into blogs and subjects you’re interested in, and getting fresh air & other hobbies (in a healthy and balanced manner).

It’s hard to acquire self discipline, but it’s ever harder to resolve our blogging addiction habits when we’re new to the blogasphere world.

By the way, your photography has improved enormously since I’ve followed your blog. You are getting some great bird shots. The hardest part is ….to stop following a funny bird pose with your camera (trying to catch it in a shot). You need to sit/stand/kneel very still and calmly take the shot without moving or wobbling.

If you miss the funny pose or shot, then you have to accept that you weren’t meant to capture it.

Congratulations on your new routine – well done, Julie.

  5. The blogroll sounds like a good idea but could it be the reason why I have just received about 8 emails from your blog, showing every comment you or someone else makes on your blog?? I previously was only notified of your posts and my comments not everyone else’s. Help, I think I may have to change something on my preferences…

  6. Ahh, I see, thank you and sorry for blaming your blogroll, was obviously a coincidence that I commented on your earlier post ‘Starting again’ and must have clicked the box and then got a whole bunch of emails! Confusing…

It’s been a nightmare for everyone because as soon as you comment you get everyone else’s comments – it’s a glitch that will soon be fixed by WP I hope!

No problem dear Julie you did right… and how you feel ok it is the right way… By the way we solved the email problems… if you can visit my last post about comment emails problem you can see… I think it was the right way that I did… Thank you, with my love, nia

You are quite right in your actions. It is obvious to me that I have followers who don’t read my blog but who have only become followers to tempt me to read theirs. I know this because the stats tell me that I have over 200 followers but only about 100 readers each day. Fortunately I don’t get the many comments that you do so that isn’t too onerous and I don’t necessarily reply to them all unless they require one.

What I have found is that I started to write the blog just for myself but now I feel a bit of pressure to come up with something interesting, even on a boring day. That is wrong for a personal blog like yours or mine. In a blog like yours, write to please yourself, read to please yourself and don’t worry about the readers. We’ll worry about ourselves while enjoying your glimpses of a complicated story.

You’ve done the right thing for today; you can always change your mind tomorrow, if you wish. It’s not permanent, after all!! Sounds like a great way to pare down and control your time!

  12. A fine decision and the blogroll is a super idea. Enjoy those extra moments – you’re allowed to do nothing sometimes too.

Only time will tell but you are in heaven and I’m still in ………. 😦

    How is it working out?

A suggestion, for when you have some time (or you could do it in stages): break up your blog roll into categories, and say a little about each so that people will be tempted to check.

See my blog roll for examples.

  15. I hope to see something of you. I’d miss your posts and comments.

  16. I have a blog roll but it’s an Excel spreadsheet. Thus I never get WordPress emails. I simply keep track of whom I subscribe to, where I comment and like, and who does the same to me.

  17. A change is as good as a rest, spend some time with you and your family and pets, have thoroughly enjoyed your writing, many Thanks and Best wishes….Baarb

Thank you Baarbaar! I am still going to write but cut down on the reading of blogs – I hope to keep seeing yours from time to time. Juliexx
