I have always been a bit recklessly all-or-nothing so, in response to the many wonderful advisory comments on my last floundery post about not being able to keep up with other people’s blogs, I have decided to unsubscribe from all 170ish and begin again.
This seems like a terrible thing to do, and very selfish, but this way I will claim the two or more hours per day I was spending on reading and commenting on others’ blogs, but I will still be able to access those blogs when I can because I have all of the links recorded. I will keep writing a daily post but I anticipate a drop in followers and fair enough.
Ah, my migraine has miraculously disappeared!
Wow, 170+ blogs to follow. That’s just way too many! No wonder you can’t keep up. You life is already very busy as it is, you need to do some spring cleaning and give yourself a break.
Yeah, I must’ve got a bit carried away by blogdom!
170? Wow. That would be like reading half a book a day, depending on how fast you read and how big the book is. Wish I had the stamina to read that much a day – I could be rich! (in knowledge, of course!) Lots of luck, lovely lady 🙂
I tend to be a bit excessive at times – hehe!
Good decision 🙂
Write when you feel like it.
Hi,
A good idea to start again, there is no way there are enough hours in a day plus do the things you have to do in your own life as well and follow 170 blogs it is not possible. Posting once a day, is enough, and this gives you more time to do your everyday things. 🙂
Yeah I just created a blogroll and unsubscribed from everything – it’s gonna be weird waking up tomorrow to only a few emails – haha!
Great idea Julie, social media can be very overwhelming, I constantly threaten to close my facebook account as I find that hard enough to keep up with and i have unsubscribed to a lot of the emails I get. Lucky for me yours is the only blog I subscribe to and I don’t even read your posts until a few days later sometimes. I too feel I need to start again and am going to blog tonight after not doing so for about two weeks. One of these days I’ll close my facebook account too…my excuse at the moment is that I use it for networking with fund-raising and other things I do.

Gee, I have enough trouble keeping up with 20+ blogs, although admittedly, I go out taking hundreds of photos on excursions each week as well as hours of editing and writing to international ‘penpals’ too.
Julie, you need a big holiday. We all understand how hard it is to be a blogaholic. Now I suppose you’ll have withdrawals symptoms, but you really need to cut down. I’ve had to cut down on commenting on blogs drastically, especially as I’ve been unwell and having surgery in a couple of weeks.
You’ve got to look after number One – that’s you, your Husband and Son. Family time is precious.
You’re not being selfish, you’re being sensible.
I didn’t realize I was overdoing the blog thing until now so I have spent a couple of hours unsubscribing and, instead, copy/pasting the blogs I read into a blog roll – how interesting and wonderful to be able to do this! That way I will not get so many emails and I will be able to dabble in my favourite blogs when I have time instead of feeling the pressure. Don’t get me wrong – I have loved it but the time-consumingness was getting too much + that feeling of obligation. You are great and thanks so much for the advice!
170!!! Good idea Julie dearest. Otherwise, just chain yourself to the computer. Yikes! Margie
Common sense is not my forte – hehe! It was taking around 2-3 hours per day!
What a great idea Julie. Starting fresh and looking at what is important instead of just keeping all the stuff you have accumulated makes a lot of sense to me. I think I may join you. Hope you come back to DogDaz, but I understand if you don’t. Congratulations on a new start – you could use a lighter load for sure – Lorian of DogDaz
Thanks Lorian!
Good for you! I’m only following 57 and feel most days that I am drowning. I’m thinking about what you have done, and telling us about it, as a public service announcement. Now I need to find the willpower to do the same, because I am not getting nearly all the things done that I would like to… It sounds so liberating! So, I guess it’s errands this morning, and facing the music this afternoon! Thanks, Julie!
I reckon the blogroll thing is fantastic!
I will try it and let you know how it works for me… hope I can stand all the newly acquired freedom! 😉
Hope it works!
I can understand you dear Julie… if blogging becomes to be problem in any way, what means to blog… and to have blog… We should be happy and get enjoy while we are blogging… So, what you feel and who you are being happy, you should do it dear Julie… About these comment emails I did the best solution you can read on my post, I wrote on my previous comment. Thank you and have a nice and enjoyable day, with my love, nia
You are wonderful!
sorry “who you are being happy…” should be “how”… 🙂
You must do what is best for you.
I think that was a good idea.
sometimes making these changes is what we need to do, it’s what we can handle at the time. good for you to realize and make the change. I hope you keep coming over to my blog.
peace n abundance,

That is a lot of blogs, but you did the right thing. They will find you…
I am still gradually adding blogs to my roll – hehe!
Not at all selfish, Julie! Blogging should relieve your stress, not add to it
Thanks BB!
Ahh.. my brave friend. I did the same a couple of times. Seems in the begining I was collecting, not caring.
Now those in my blogs I follow caregory are blogs that I am truly invested in. My heart, my friendship, my mind.
There is as I have often spoke about my core. I have kept that core since day one and have slowly been adding to it.
Its not an easy thing to do and I applaud you for being so honest. Just being away from here for a few days has put me behind even with those of you I love and need to know what is happening in your lives. I never realized until recently how important these daily posts from that core are to me.
It has taught me to become extremely selective. Is that a bad thing?
Oh I so know what you mean!
I learned at the last place where I was blogging that it’s not necessary for me to follow everyone who follows me. I do try to reciprocate, but one person who follows me has nothing but nude photography in his blog. I don’t like it, so I don’t follow him. If he wants to unfollow me, no problem. I don’t take anything too personal in the blogging world. I mean, after all, these are virtual people, and they might not even be real. Had that happen a couple of times, too. It’s amazing what people will do when they can do it anonymously.
Are you real?
Jules I adore your sense og humor. You have such irony in it and it’s something most don’t seem to either get or appreciate. I do both. My husband says I have no sense og humor because of it. Thank you.
I wonder?
I LOVE irony!!
Me Too!!
