An old box of old photos

on August 13, 2012

This is really exciting!

A little town down south of here is on the brink of celebrating the existence of the place where Anthony grew up.

Long story short: I’ve been asked to find old photos of this beautiful place which is now a tree park.

I am taking the box of old photos into the nursing lodge tomorrow to see what Anthony can remember – and I already know he will remember everything.

And the committee women who are organizing the event are coming up to visit Anthony next week. I told them that he planted some of these trees as a boy.

This is so exciting!

This is truly wonderful. I found with mom that, even when she wasn’t sure if she’d had lunch, or where she’d left her wallet, she could hone in on things from the farther past and really enjoy it. Sometimes she seemed not to have a clue, but eventually I figured out “I don’t remember” translated as “I’m tired and want to quit looking for a while.”

This is such a neat project – and how nice that the others are coming to visit!

I can imagine what a wonderful thing this will be to do. See photos of trees Anthony planted when young will be lots of fun for you both.

Hope you both have an enjoyable time going through the box. Perhaps even do it over 2-3 days so Anthony doesn’t get too tired.

Julie, why is it that Ants and Al can remember things from when they were almost babies, but nothing today? I am glad you are able to be a part of this historical event. It will occupy your mind, help you and Ants do something together, plus it will be fun!!!!

  10. Old photos hold so much information besides just memories.

So wonderful ~ tell us how it goes!! xo Love to you Julie xxx

  12. We went through old photos with grandma, what a wonderful day that was. I recommend if you can do it, is audio record the conversations about the photos. I did that with grandma. I just put a recorder in my jacket pocket, pushed record, and started showing photos and asking questions.

    I hope it goes great!

What a wonderful surprise .. and something to keep him occupied with. Hopefully he will recognize some faces. Love the old box. When I moved back to Sweden .. I had been carrying photos for years around the world .. and I had photos and negative in storage in Sweden for all those years. I dumped them all. Nobody comes after me in our family and I never looked at my photos. Just tired of them all.

  15. That does sound exciting – I hope you and Ants get a great deal of joy out of this experience!

  16. That’s so fabulous. Very special for your husband.

  17. This sounds like the perfect project! It will be mutually beneficial to Anthony and to the committee women!

  18. I have been going through some old photos the last couple of days………..and I love going through them.

Hey, Julie… My hard drive crashed before the weekend, so I’ve  MIA.  I’m using my old ACER (which is crap), but at least I can check my email. Gotta say that Anthony robbed the cradle and looks like the cat who ate the canary!  You were a beautiful bride!  Good memories. Rick and I celebrated our 37th anniversary last Thursday.  We ate seafood Friday night which is a treat for us.  Quite non-eventful for the 37th.  I guess this is the way it is now. Wish we were neighbors, and we could go see Hope Springs together and laugh!  We would have a great time. I hope you find joy in your day today. 20. How exciting Jules for all three of you although Mind might not quite fully appreciate how cool this is yet. I said might, that son of your’s never ceases to amaze me in such great ways. In fact thinking out loud here like a nosy OLD auntiish kind of way; that it would be so cool if they would let Ming plant a tree there too.

I think it’s about time this family has something so incredible to look forward to. Lots & Lots of photos to go with the great stories you’ll record after.

Like how I am your manager? LOl…

We have now found a number of photos that are so old that nobody who is still alive will know who the people are etc. I might send you some of these with your present just for fun!
