I watched two of Ming’s favourite television shows with him tonight, we ate pizza, and we laughed together.
What a wonderfully simple way to reconcile our differences and rebond. I haven’t watched television for months and now I am addicted to two shows – take a guess which ones!
Due to our circumstances, I think the three of us – Ants, Ming and me – have made our love for each other too complicated, too intense, too anxious.
We need to lighten up and get back to the simplicity of watching television together.
Okay, I will tell you what the first show is: Home and Away. I am not giving away what the second show is/was.
Television is quite relaxing isn’t it!
Simplicity rocks!
It is relaxing and a great way of spending calm time with people. It is also mind rotting 😀
Mindrot is better than heartbrk
It surely is. We indulge often but by watching series or movies on DVD – it’s the tyranny of scheduling we hate.
Love this, Julie. The simple things are often the best to share.
Home and Away!! It is still going? Wow.. teenagers, television and pizza.. happiness filled. Time is such a generous gift! Go Mum.. c
Yes – it’s still going. Ming got addicted to it only a few weeks ago but I remember it from decades ago – how funny!
scary!.. c
I’ve been thinking about this very thing Julie… I NEVER watch tv or movies anymore… it’s hard for me to focus as observer only due to pain… I think that’s why the blog has been good (somewhat interactive ~ so more distracting from pain)… but I do miss getting lost in a great show or movie- and think this is an ideal way to bond with Ming again ~ and share simple moments together, laughs and tears… If you think I’d love one of your 2 addictive shows — let me know! Love U!
The fact that you are in so much pain that you can’t watch a movie breaks my heart. It’s 2012 – I just don’t get why you can’t get some relief – unbelievable and it makes me so mad.
The other thing that is unbelievable is your strenght of character, your creativity and your physical resiliance – you are a one-off Robyn. Sending massive love and prayer to you my sister Jxxxxx
the televisions is always on here, but i don’t actually sit and watch it
Me too but I have now made a promise to Ming to watch it with him for an hour every night. He is so sweet wanting togetherness via tv!
Nate and I rented Moonrise Kingdom on DVD Friday night. Offbeat humor that he loves. Thoroughly enjoyed sharing it with him. I have limits, though. Won’t watch Tosh with him. Disturbs me.
I am not familiar with those series but thanks for this brilliant idea of renting a series!
To sit quietly and share the TV can be a great relationship builder… love it..
Watching TV and especially funny TV is a good mind and heart holiday.
Yes!
If that makes you happiest with each other’s company, why not? Is Home and Away an Aussie show? Must be. Is the other Duck Dynasty? (No, I know it’s not. The only show I watch with regularity is Duck Dynasty – too funny, very clean, and almost ridiculous!) And pizza always binds. 🙂
Homw and Away is very Aussie – Duck Dynasty?
VERY American…very redneck…
Ha!
Watching TV together can be very companionable. I’m glad that you and Ming shared this time together. 🙂
Laughter is good medicine!
The second show wasn’t Funny Home Videos was it? I find that show good for laugh along with World’s Dummest
X factor!
we love to sit and watch the old as well the new masterpiece mysteries. t.v. works for me as i don’t have to use the energy to talk and engage. there are times the pain makes it difficult to follow an intricate story line but the just for fun shows and plain silly ones are perfect for those times. just being able to forget and put concerns to the side is invaluable.
sometimes we have to remember not to take ourselves so seriously. not to say we aren’t in serious situations but i compare it to being in battle. the human spirit and psyche just can’t sustain this level of intensity for these extended periods of time.
anything that let’s us forget for a while and bring a shared laugh is all good!
Yes and the two shows we watched were really light stuff – so I’ve committed to watching at least one of these with the brat every night. Everything you say here makes perfect sense.
That’s a great way to bond again Julie, watching some of his favorite shows. Our son lives in San Antonio (about six hours away) and that’s one of the things we enjoy doing when we get to spend some time together. He loves the crazy Brittish comedies like the IT crowd and Inbetweeners etc. Not really our cup of tea, but I love that he wants to share them with us.
That is so sweet!
Julie, of course all the love is there … only that circumstances and life are tough on all of you – and I think Ming just love to be Ming again, he know that there is no pressure on him .. to be Ant for you. Simplest things in life are what we cherish most.
Yes and thank you Viveka!
Simple is sometimes better!
Definitely!
TV is a good way to veg and zone out – I love ‘Rake’ 🙂
I have never even heard of ‘Rake’. I will look it up.
you had me at pizza
Julie, good for you! We all need a break from reality even if it is only an hour or two in the evenings. Glad you shared yours with Ming!

Simplicity in Life is just Wonderful.
I am at my happiest doing nothing-much-in-particular.
Back when I was still working full-time and too exhausted & in pain to do anything much, Sunday mornings were my favourite. I would just sit on my couch/sofa looking out the open balcony door for hours. I would just listen to the wind rustling the leaves in the tree-tops or watch the rose branches swaying in the wind tossing the rose blooms this way and that.
When I stopped and would look at my watch, I’d often find 3 hours had passed and all I had done in that time was Listened & Looked.
That is beautiful!
