Apparently, in Hindu culture, the peacock’s crown symbolizes the music of the heart via the head. It’s interesting to watch Gutsy9’s little crown grow.

Little Gutsy-9 looks like he is sporting a little mohawk right now. He is adorable. Did you know that the peacock is featured in Greek mythology. Zeus was having his way with a Greek maiden, her name was Io, and when Zeus sensed Hera coming he changed Io into a lovely white cow. Hera knowing what he did, pretended to love the cow and Zeus had to give it to her as a present. Hera had her faithful 100 eyed bodyguard Argo watch over the cow. His eyes were all over his body so he never slept without at least one eye open. Zeus sent his son Hermes to try to get Io out of her situation. Hermes set about telling Argo the most boring tale in the world and one by one, Argo’s eyes closed and soon he was dead bored to death. Hermes was tried by his peers but no one found him guilty and Hera to honor her faithful guard placed his eyes on the plummage of the peacock who realized how exquisite his feathers had become and became the vainest bird in history. Io escaped, still a cow and Hera sent a horsefly after her. Io lept over the Bosphorus Fjord into Egypt where she was worshiped and Zeus was allowed to set her back into maiden form and she became Queen and produced pharoahs for Egypt. There is a taste of Greek mythology. 🙂

I’ve never thought about a peacock actually having to – you know – grow that crown! Of course, I’ve never seen a baby peacock, either. This really is fascinating – thanks for taking the time to post the photos for us.

Wow! He has grown so much! “The music of the heart”-that is interesting idea and of course hits close to home..I am wondering if he will be a white peacock…will he will ask who his birth parents are and maybe go to therapy? Obviously he made the right choice imprinting on you…and I am enjoying watching him grow and hearing about him.
