Gutsy9 is now over 3 months old (photos are from beginning to now). When we go outside he literally gallops after me, despite his crooked leg. This morning I left him inside while I filled the outside ponds because he could easily drown at this age. When I turned the hose off I heard this unearthly howl from the house – quite guttural – and it was him! His voice must have broken because usually, when he can’t see me, he just cheeps forlornly.
What an interesting experience!
Good for him. Resilient!
Very!
How about resiliant? The e didn’t look right. 🙂
Okay, it is with an e. I’m an obsessive speller as you can tell. 🙂
Hey this bird has the right name… gutsy9 calls… you will have to start taping them and putting them on the blog as well…
Good idea!
Oh little Gutsy9 is so like a puppy……………just smaller…………lol oh yeah he also has feathers and only two legs………….lol
I am trying to get him independent but it’s gonna be awhile.
He likes mealworms, I see. I steep mealworms in hot water and put them out for the birds. They don’t last long on the birdtable!
They cost $80 per kilo here! Needless to say, I have only ever bought one kilo and I made it last.
I can buy a packet of 100 grams in a pound shop for 1.00 GBP. This is the cheapest I think I can get them.
The supermarkets sell them for about 3.99 for 80 gram packets. Idon’t buy them there!
HE’s getting so big
Do you think? I wish he would grow faster – that way he could peck the adults back!
boy he is getting big!
The bigger he grows the better he”ll survive out there in the ‘real’ world.
Looks like he’s a survivor, Julie.
Now that he’s a teenager and his voice has ‘broken’, it will be interesting to see how he develops into adulthood.

Very interesting!
That second photo is priceless
I know – so vulnerable back then. He is quite assertive now!
Howling – that’s funny!
It was an awful sound!
He’s growing up!
And gets quite feisty if he doesn’t get his way – typical teenager!
Great news … so happy for the little fellow – you guys couldn’t given him a better name – he really lives up it. Wonderful to have him around.
It is!
Hi Julie … thanks for the cute pics.
You’re welcome, Frank.
I feel like Gutsy-9’s auntie Laurie.:)
You are!
🙂
You’re a real softie when it comes to animals, aren’t you? That probably makes you a very good person.
What do you mean by ‘probably’? hehe!
Haha. Okay, most likely for sure.
I just can’t get over how big he has grown in these few months!!!
It must have been those mealworms!
This little guy reminds me of my Siamese, Vinci. I am his mommy, and he follows me everywhere, and he cries when I leave the house.
Vinci sounds adorable – love the name!
🙂 thanks!
What a total star Gutsy is! So glad he’s made it through until now, Julie. He looks very happy.
He is! And very spoilt.
His leg looks much better, and doesn’t seem to bother him much. Thanks for keeping us apprised of his development.
He seems okay with his leg now but still timid with the other peacocks.
Never doubt your gut feelings. You knew this little one would make it.
Yes, I am relieved!
great aliterations! That would have been so funny to be there when he voiced his opinion! i see he is going to be a white peacock!
Half white and half blue.
Oh, that’s interesting-I wonder what he will look like full grown?
What a trooper! 😀
He’s outside in one of the chookpens now – I just want him to get his wonky toes and legs better, so crossing my fingers!
😀
He’s growing stronger. Whoo-hoo! 🙂
Still a bit dodgy but crossing fingers!
Julie, Gutsy is becoming a manly man with a new voice and all. Thanks to is mama. Take care Bill
I need to get him out of the nest for his own survival – argh!
Interesting… Don’t remember reading about his foot. ?
He thinks you’re his mama
Gutsy doesn’t like being separated from you. He’s such a Mama’s boy. You gotta love that!
