A couple of days ago I wrote about Anthony’s 1963 stove that has recently died. My first ‘whoops’ was when I described it as being a tiny bit older than me when it is actually a tiny bit younger. I don’t feel the need to apologize to the stove since it’s dead anyway but I did want to correct that minor inaccuracy for blog posterity purposes.
My second ‘whoops’ was when one of my blog friends commented: “1963 a very good year… your stove lasted 50 years and so did our marriage.” I took this to mean that something had suddenly gone amiss with her marriage so I replied, “I’m so sorryxxx.” Then I went about my daily chores a bit sad for her.
Much later in the day, I logged on and saw that my friend had written: “What are you sorry about…… we’re still married… sorry if I confused you…” Oh, I was so relieved that her marriage was in such better shape than my stove that I laughed hysterically for a few moments, then she and I exchanged a few ‘haha’ messages.
I have done a few ‘whoopsies’ lately (I seem to have a talent for it), and some of them have gotten me into trouble, so I am beginning to realize that I need to think more carefully before I speak or write. This particular ‘whoopsie’ though was so funny that I am still laughing and laughing. I have not revealed the identity of the blogger who I ‘whoopsed’ because, well, privacy and all that, but if she is willing to comment you will all know.
I imagine she is still laughing too – argh – whoops!
Howdy Whoops, good to meet you. 😉
Haha – I bet you don’t make this kind of idiotic faux pas
Oh Julie…..SO many times! And not just on my blog! 🙂
Glad you got a good laugh out of it!
I am such an idiot!
No you’re not! It’s these moments that make life fun!
Okay, I will take your word for it but I bet you don’t put your foot in your mouth as much as I do – ha!
OMG – Julie, I’m just not as brave as you about sharing them! It used to embarass me but now I just laugh and my daughter says things like, ‘mom, you’re pretty..’ which doesnt actually mean I’m pretty it’s more like a dumb blond comment or sarcastically the closest thing to something positive she can say about me and my blunders!
Your daughter and my son are well suited ha!
🙂 !
I think that the club for whoopsies is a whole lot larger than either you or I can imagine. You are one of the few who is brave and self-confident enough to admit to their whoopsies. I make a ton of whoopsies, I just forget that I do. My baby girl would be the first to tell you all about them, very funny stuff.
Ha! It really is reassuring to me that other people do the whoopsie too! Thanks Lauriex
Yep….that’s me .. When I read ‘I’m sorry’…. I was a bit perplexed but then in another instance I knew what Julie was saying…. I laughed to myself but not wanting to make her feel bad I kept it to myself ..and just said I was still married etc etc but then when she laughed I felt free to. Like Julie however it became clear to me that I also had to be careful how I worded comments…. Sometimes not to be too long I just blurt something short out…. In this case however it was ‘fun’!!! Thanks Julie !!! Diane
Oh no, now I am once again laughing hysterically. Diane, I cannot thank you enough for making me laugh so much for so long – I adore you for this!
The culprit!
nothing like a good belly laugh though, even more fun to laugh at oneself!! c
I love laughing at myself – I have to because I do this kind of thing every day!
Welcome to we’re all in the human boat of whoops. Some whoopsier than others but hey…we need this for laughs. Huggie wuggie to you. And, whoever has been married 50 years. woo hoo! My parents made it to 52. Me and mine are lagging way behind at only 28 so far. Okay, enough of my whoopsie rambling, lol. 🙂
You are hilarious!
You’re not alone in whoopsies! I recently made a comment that made it sound like I didn’t like one of an artist’s paintings when I was really trying to say it was one of my favorites. I felt like such a jerk! Thanks for the laugh today, Julie! I love your sense of humor.
Oh no!
We’re all allowed whoopsies 🙂 I make them all the time!
Perhaps we should begin a competition haha!
I can see where you were thinking her marriage had ended. I probably would have thought that also!
Oh phew – I don’t feel so silly now!
I find it really funny (how people mis-read or misinterpret what we write). I am forever going back and correcting or deleting sentences (or even the whole post) on my blog.
Sometimes it’s just a matter of moving a comma in a sentence.
Julie, I think you’d be surprised how many ‘whoopsies’ we all make.
And it is so funny how a comma can totally alter a sentence – I used to teach this haha!
Perhaps your mind was on other things for some strange reason.
Possibly hehe!
We must be related, in some strange way. Thank you for the laugh.
Are you my long lost brother?
I am a classic “whoops….I have said the wrong thing again” sort of person.
So join the club 🙂
Does the club have therapy sessions? Ha
Well miss whoops……………….we all have times when we do those things………..
I bet you don’t Joanne!
The whooops is what makes us special and shows we are not perfect… that is why I follow so many on the WP. they show they are just like me… make mistakes and are actually normal people…
That is extremely reassuring!
Julie, I can’t remember the time I wasn’t in some sort of trouble, going without being in trouble for more than a week. And that doesn’t even include the whooops which I do all the time. I am glad you and your friend had a few chuckles, and I am sorry about the demise of your stove, but 50 years give or take a couple is outstanding for a stove, that must be like 1037 in stove years. Take care, and have a great day. Bill
Sorry about your stove, but glad your friend’s marriage is alive and well:) Whoopsie away. It happens.
Hello, I found you because of Bill Hamilton’s blog and his wonderful Blue Ribbon salute to you,
http://dealingwithcopd.wordpress.com/ . I am so delighted to have followed up. This was the first post I read and, as a fellow foot planted in mouth, or “Whoopser,” I immediately clicked “follow.” Thank you for sharing the laughter. Best ~ HuntMode
