A couple of weeks ago I had to get Ming to Perth (2 hour drive) by 6.30am, so he could be admitted into the hospital for corrective surgery to his spine. By the time we got to Perth, I was a bit flustered so, when I turned into a one-way street next to the huge hospital, I lost my nerve at the hospital’s ticket-taking machine, so I backed out into that same one-way street and parked the car.
Several hours later, my dearest friend met me for lunch at the hospital and we walked back to my car so I could put more coins in the meter. As soon as he saw my car, he exclaimed that it was pointing in the wrong direction and warned me that I might get a fine. Well he was right! And here is the proof – me standing next to the car with the $70 ticket in my trembling hands.
It strikes me now that this photograph may be symbolic of something but I am not sure what!
To me, it is symbolic that you are going about something the ‘wrong way’….or you are thinking about something the ‘wrong way’.
I think you are right, Jan. I am trying to figure it all out – thank you.
Always the rebel, Julie!
I am sorry about that ticket.
So am I!
Oh. You poor dear! (((HUGS))))
I am such an idiot in the city!
It happens to the best of us, especially in places we’re not familiar with!
Yes – entirely understandable haha!
Julie if nothing else it gave me one hell of a good laugh… sorry about the fine, but it is only the tenacity of a woman to do what you did… (still laughing)
If you don’t stop laughing I will send the fine to you bulldog!!!
Only R 700 in our funny money… wont be able to smoke for a month,,,
Thanks for the laugh!
I think it’s only symbolic of the amount of stress-related issues you’re under right now…. I think many of us could relate to doing something like that…. well me anyway…ha!…. Diane
I made several other parking mistakes during that week lol!
only two more days of wrong way 2013 and then it is right way 2014
Crossed fingers!
It’s easy to be distracted when under a lot of pressure. Be careful. 🙂
I will definitely have to be careful because I am easily distracted even when not under pressure – ha!
Ah, thought you were going to tell of driving the wrong way down a one way street – glad it was just a small reverse 😉 bummer about the ticket though.
I think the ticketer must have assumed I’d driven the wrong way argh!
Bahahahahaha…Did you laugh or cry? Some things you just gotta laugh about, in spite of a hefty penalty, but I am sorry you got that ticket. (I’ve been keeping up – just not replying. Crazy busy life.) Sending you big Texas love across the waves…
I couldn’t stop laughing! Happy new year to you, Wisdom xxx
Oh poop! I like what the commenter before me said and your response.
Ha!
What might help you when visiting a strange place is to do the journey on Google Streetview to familiarise yourself with area first. ‘Drive’ through streets in Streetview – it is very good.
When you actually visit the area you should be familiar with it and save time faffing about trying to find out where you are going.
Where parking is concerned, traffic wardens are like predatory animals looking for prey – they have no compassion. Their objective is to give parking tickets to as many people as they can. Predatory animals – that’s what they are. No point trying to reason with them.
Good ideas! I seem to have lost my nerve driving in the city and Perth is quite a small city.
Julie, I love you to death you know that, and I care deeply for you. But it just seems to me when you park your car on a one way street, with the nose of the car pointing the wrong direction, and you do so right beneath the “One Way” sign. I think you got off cheap with just a 70 dollar fine. Don’t throw big rocks at me. Take care, Bill
I just threw a pebble at you hahaha!
Characteristic bad luck, I should say. Poor you.
Alas.
Well I could start ranting about how you folk drive on the wrong side of the road… we had a siilar experience years ago when living in London. Fortunately no one was hurt… but it was quite scary when we realized our error!
Very scary!
I …………….(damn, I can’t think of anything to say).
Just got out of bed because the phone rang and I’m still half asleep.
Haha!
sort of thing I’d do…but the fines are bigger in Sydney!
Yes, my friend thought the fine would be bigger!
life is difficult when you go against the flow
Yes!
Or that you know which way you’re going regardless of which way you are pointed. (People can walk backwards while moving forward.) 🙂
Good point!
Laughter……, hysterical in this case, releasing healing endorphins has gotta be worth the $70 my beautiful daughter!!!
Why are you coming up as Anonymous, Mummy?
I don’t understand why people get fined for parking the wrong way in a one way street, it is not like you were driving down the street causing an accident but I am sure there is some logic in giving tickets out other than geting money for the council
Maybe I should write a letter to the council haha!
Bummer! The icing on the cake, something to frazzle you a little bit more. There are days like that, and I hope you don’t have another one for a while:)
One time I was in a bigger city and I turned down a one way street going the wrong way. It was dark and a busy street. I saw three sets of headlights storming at me. I jerked the car in to reverse and got the heck out of there!!! LOL, I will never forget that, but I did not get a ticket!
Oh dear! Well, at least you had a good excuse – you were distracted with worry about the surgery. I have the same car, only mine is white!
OH 😦 I’m so sorry you got caught. I always feel a ticket is a total waste of money!!
Well done getting him there that early though! omg!
oops…..what more can I say? Tickets are not funny, right? Here is a hug to make it all better 🙂
OMG just remembered I have to pay that fine – thanks!
🙂 (happy you remembered….sad you have to pay it….:(
