This afternoon, I entered Anthony’s nursing home room and his expression was of surprised delight. Nowadays, this is a bit of a novelty as he is often asleep.
Anthony: Jules! I didn’t expect you so soon!
This was a great relief to me as I had been away for a couple of days.
Our afternoon was enhanced by a visit from P, Anthony’s nephew, who visits most weekends. P recounted stories of his own childhood on the farm where Ants grew up – including Anthony’s pet pig attacking him.
Anthony’s words were stilted but eventually the pig (and other) stories came out and it was wonderful to see Anthony smile in remembrance. All thanks to P of course!
I so love the way Anthony smiles and am so grateful for P!
Ming has been mistaken by Ants for various nephews but copes extremely well and simply kisses his dad on the forehead and leaves. So far, Ants always recognises me but I am ready of course, when he won’t.
i was dealing with a patient yesterday who has dementia and is now virtually speechless. Her husband just guesses what she needs as he says there is no communication. Out of the blue she said, I like your coat. Both of us were so surprised but that’s how it does.
So glad.
I hope that that sad day is still some way off.
It is great that he loves seeing you and hearing stores of bygone days that make him happy also awesome that his nephew visits him so many people in nursing homes get no visitors which is sad
So good to hear Anthony has so many regular visitors to entertain and keep him occupied. I’m sure that is part of the reason for his long life (in the face of such debilitating health contains).
He is a very lucky resident of that nursing home.
I agree with Vicki. I think all those visitors love and attention is keeping him going. So glad that that you he had a good time and that you got to see one of his rare smiles! ❤
