I got tagged

I don’t know how to tweet, or text, or play tag but I just got tagged by Susan at http://susandanielseden.wordpress.com/2012/10/06/i-am-actually-taking-a-tag-because-this-one-is-cool/

Now, she knows I have an aversion to awards but she still tagged me! Her punishment is the Hot Potato Award which, if you read her above post, is something she has been craving for some time.

For those of you who don’t know, the HPA is an award I created some time ago as my way of avoiding award nominations, not because I am ungrateful or ungracious, just because I was too lazy and inept to understand all the rules! The HPA is an award that comes with no rules – you just get it (if I give it to you – hahahaha!)

Susan’s blog is brilliant – check it out!

Okay, back to my texting lesson.

Two more culprits!

The following bloggers nominated me for awards without realizing that my way of accepting awards is to give them an award – yes, indeed, there are now two more lucky recipients of the Hot Potato Award for which there are no rules except that you either accept it and copy/paste it to your blog or not.

Riba, at No Holds Barred, has a way of writing that strokes the soul:

Magically Mad, at Not Quite Lost, has a way of writing that challenges the soul:

Of course, they both do both of these things in their enlightening blogs.

Four more Hot Potato Award winners!

Underneath the following picture is a list of the amazing bloggers who have nominated me for awards. I am so grateful for this kind of acknowledgement (of my blog), however, as an award-shy person, my way of accepting these nominations, with grace, has been to create the ‘Hot Potato Award’ which I give freely to (no strings attached, no rules – you just take it and copy/paste to your blog page, or you don’t).

So please check out these hot potatoes – they are very worthwhile, incredible blogs!

The Hot Potato Award 2

A few days ago I was stricken with guilt at not yet having fulfilled the criteria for various blog awards I’d been nominated for by some extremely kind nominators. And then I was stricken with anxiety that I had forgotten who nominated me for what. And then I was stricken with exhaustion, searching back through past comments to try and find out. And then I was stricken with confusion about what I was supposed to actually do.

And then I went out and fed the birds.

The result is that I have invented a new award called ‘The Hot Potato Award.’ For recipients of this award, you don’t have to do anything except accept it and copy/past it to your blog’s main page. I thank Lisa Boice for helping me get the words into the picture! Lisa can be found at:

My own resistance to awards is borne of a reluctance to accept accolades. I realize this seems ungracious and I apologize. I do, however, recognize the value in these awards in the sense that it is a wonderful way of acknowledging other blogs/bloggers, but I think this is possible without the complications of award nomination criteria.

The Hot Potato Award has very few rules:

  • You either accept it or you don’t (you don’t have to fulfil any criteria)
  • If you are nominated for a blog award that you already have, you now have the option of giving your nominator The Hot Potato Award

Now, I am quite sure I have forgotten something important here but I don’t know what. Tomorrow, I will send some Hot Potato Awards to those who have been kind enough to nominate me for other awards.

Any suggestions appreciated, before the hot potato turns into a chip!

The Hot Potato Award

I think I have been nominated for a few blog awards now and, to begin with, I didn’t know what this even meant. Then, when I realized, I felt a bit overwhelmed and underserving and grateful and reluctant. Eventually, I got consumed with guilt at not having fulfilled the various criteria, especially when I realized it was a lovely way of acknowledging fellow bloggers. Alas, except for a couple of recent nominations, I am not sure who or what or how I do this thing so I have decided to invent what I think is a rather brilliant strategy for award ‘reluctantees’ like me and that is to re-package whatever award anyone nominates me for (which is unlikely as I have so far been unwittingly ungracious) as The Hot Potato Award. Here are the rules:

  • The Hot Potato Award can only be given once (this is not Pass the Parcel!)
  • The Hot Potato Recipient doesn’t have to do anything except  to accept the award and put it on their blog (oh no, I am going to have to find a picture of a hot potato -any suggestions?)
  • The Hot Potato Awarder must state which award has been re-cooked and write a few sentences to describe why she/he is giving it to the recipient.

I am sure I haven’t thought of a few things here so any ideas appreciated!

Now I just have to go back and find who nominated me and hot potato them – hehe!
