Dangerous divulgences!

on May 1, 2012

I have noticed lately, that all of the blogs I subscribe to are written by people who are good people. I have also noticed that sometimes good people let something slip into their posts that is not-so-good, or not-so-pleasant, a kind of appeal to indulge the divulgence, a hesitantly heroic haha of honesty, a ferocious fault-line, a grinning uncertainty.

I like to smoke cigars

I like to sip beer

I like to swear

Obviously Godrey doesn’t approve but who cares – I am not a goose!

  1. I like to swear, I also like beer. I can’t smoke though because I have a lung condition!

  2. I like to swear and drink beer too.

    Can’t smoke though because I have a lung condition…but I used to.

Whahahahaha! I had to laugh now and also had to go and check if you’re following my blog as well! So, if I smoke, like a drink now and then and swear Godfrey won’t think I’m good either? LOL! It’s okay Godfrey, good people do those things as well and yes, I do all three and consider myself a good person – sometimes. LOL!
    *hugs*

  4. This is great Jules. You are right that sometimes maybe some bloggers are asking themselves the next moring; ” Do you still respect me?”

    Its true.

And the photo of Godfrey? Hilarious! It looks as if he teaching all a very important lesson. Or lecturing the kids.

  5. victoriaaphotography says:

    Ooohhhh Uhhmmmm.

I have truly given up the first two indulgences, Julie, I promise I really have.

But the third……..well I do indulge in a wee bit of cursing and swearing when the ‘going gets tough’……..Big Grin. Actually I have indulged in a wine or two recently (after an absence of some years). But cigars. No, not for over 30 years now.

Thank goodness Godfrey is not issuing rules and regulations in my household – he looks downright dictatorial in that pose.

  6. Good for you! We share most of your ‘dangerous indulgences’ 😉

  7. Finn Holding says:

There’s an admonishment in the UK that folk who cuss do so because they have a limited vocabulary. But I think that’s total bollocks! It means you know more words, not less. So as well as indicating a certain erudition, along with beer and cigars it makes life just a little bit more fun. (Wine and whisky are good too).

  8. pixilated2 says:

I don’t drink or smoke. I gave them both up almost 30 years ago. Hold on, don’t go trying to shine up my halo just yet… I have a mouth like a sailor when I get angry or frustrated. Picked it up in the Navy, and the bad habit is in my back pocket for life I think. 😉

  9. bulldogsturf says:

I smoke and I swear but I don’t drink will the goose approve, love the photo.

  10. tootlepedal says:

Blimey, I didn’t realise that any of these things were indulgences.

  11. hotlyspiced says:

I have many vices but smoking is not one of them. How is Doc?

    • jmgoyder says:

Doc is still inside back veranda, nestled into an old armchair – his spine seems to be suffering – I will sleep with him tonight and see what he’s like in morning – not looking that hopeful as he is very listless.

  12. Sofia says:

I do what I think is best for me regardless of what others might think or say. Some might not consider that a dangerous indulgence but coming from a highly critical family environment where everyone has an opinion about what I should do and how I should do it, I’ve decided I just don’t care what any of them think. I follow my own path and focus on me and my kids.

    • jmgoyder says:

Now I know you are an inspiration +++++++!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Sofia says:

I think everyone here would agree you are everyone’s inspiration! It’s not easy living with a unconventional mindset but it works for me to do what is best for me. My sister seems to be the one person who understands this and offers support of it…everyone else is…. oh well…not so fond of it. It’s my life so I’m going to live it the best way I know how and be happy doing it.

      • jmgoyder says:

Thanks Sofia – so worried about Doc now that my divulgences seem silly.

  13. melissakoski says:

Aw sad news about Doc.. I have a million vices and am in a conservative judgemental community. (: I think I’m great, but you should see the looks I get when I go into the girls’ schools. I can tell quite a few people have read my blog and disapprove of my sense of humor. Years back both my brother and grandma died a few months apart and I was close with both of them. After that I vowed to live fully and not give much time to what other people may think. It was a liberating new beginning. Julie, I somehow don’t see that you have much time to even indulge in your vices! I always like to tell people that I’m the nicest horrible person they know. (:

    Hugs!

Ah…here is one famous quote “Well-behaved women seldom make history.” – Laurel Thatcher Ulrich. If you pay your own bills, don’t let people tell you what you should or shouldn’t do…is my motto. I’m neither goose nor nun.

  15. dcwisdom says:

I never claim to be good; just forgiven. ha! What constitutes goodness? And whatever good is, I’d rather be on the good side than on the bad. In fact, I only know of one perfect person, and there’s a difference between good and perfect. Ahhh, Julie, don’t get me started this early in the morning! 🙂
And P.S. I wish this country didn’t bend over backwards to be politically correct. I hate it! It stinks. We’ve been brainwashed. Hopefully, there are still enough of us in our good minds that will make a difference in the November election. 🙂

  16. niasunset says:

I noticed this too dear Julie, whoever I met in this community, they are all so beautiful people… But about these details to be honest I didn’t think of it before… 🙂

I don’t smoke… and I never liked it… Maybe because of my mother, in all my life the most beautiful thing what she made for me 🙂 Of course she never knew this… She was a terrible smoker that I had seen in my life… and always she put her cigarette when it was finished to her tea cup’s plate!!!!!!! It was so bad and never gave up to do this… When I was a young girl I washed the dishes at the home… and it was so bad feeling to wash these cigarettes in the plate… I was disgusting always for me… So, I never liked to smoke… always the smell of them coming to my mind…

I don’t like to drink beer BUT I like wine and Raki
and about to swear… In my own language too, I don’t know to swear… But when I get angry I say some silly words… 🙂

    I should be so boring one…. 🙂
Thank you dear Julie, your photograph was so lovely and nice again… With my love, nia

  17. […] posting is inspired by my friend Julie of jmgoyder […]

  18. Robyn Lee says:

Good post Jules- I am going to try cursing today for sure 😉

  19. TBM says:

Oh know…I’m in trouble with Godfrey!

  20. I’d list my vices here too, but I don’t have all day and there’s limited space.
Very sorry about your dog though. Hard decisions coming up, but there comes a time we don’t want our pets to suffer.

  21. Fergiemoto says:

I sip an occasional beer but I prefer cocktails, I don’t smoke, and sometimes a swear word will slip out. Godfrey looks to be teaching the young-uns not to do those things.

  22. Paws To Talk says:

Ha! We try to keep our vices hidden. We hope Godrey doesn’t find out 🙂
    Bella and DiDi

  23. I rarely drink, smoke tea regularly and am a terrible cusser. Throw in the fact I’m athiest and it’s a wonder people don’t pound down my door threatening me with hell!

  24. Haha, I know you wouldn’t know I’d be posting this when you wrote your own post!

Oops, did I just hear the F word?

  25. Now that I’ve given up Diet Coke, I have no vices left. That’s not true. I’m just too tired and depressed to enjoy them.

  26. dianne says:

great post, i enjoyed and enjoyed reading all the comments.. ; )

  27. bluebee says:

Give the old prude some beer-laced cabbage

  28. Tilly Bud says:

I have never smoked; barely drink; and don’t swear.

    I like you 😀

  29. They say confession is good for the soul, but I think a soul can only be so good!

  30. Oops! Meant to add — So I’m saving my confessions for when I really need them!
