An ode to blogging

on May 10, 2012

Unsubscribing from so many blogs

Was more than just a little slog

But it got me out of a substantial bog

Thank God

And now I look at an empty inbox

That flickers with the eyes of a fox

That mocks me like a jack-in-the-box

Odd socks

What to do with all this time?

I had no idea I was in such a bind

I must have been completely blind

In kind

Caring has its penalties

It sometimes obscures the beautiful trees

And all those blogs – they spoke to me

To me

So now I start all over again

Subscribing to a chosen ten

And visiting all the rest of them

There’s always a when

It got too hard, this bloggingdom

It started to be a large kingdom

But a place where I always found wingdom

And wisdom

So I decided to taper it off

Begin again and save the cost

Of too many minutes of my time lost

Become my own boss

I will visit  my blogroll friends when I can

Instead of losing who I am

Instead of being this little lamb

Who doesn’t know he can’t

Do everything

    You’re a clever little cookie!

I’m with you, all the way. I’ll just add that I have another little rule of thumb. I’ve given up reading the blogs that are nasty, angry or boring. Who needs that? 😉

  3. Ahhhh and the poet emerges…..

  4. Haha, now you have plenty of time for writing funny poetry! Feels good, doesn’t it?

Haha! Very good, my Downunder Friend! Well, if I’m not on your favored list, I’ll live. 🙂 I know whatcha mean, though. Time is just sucked up! Going back to Dallas for the weekend and another graduation.

This was fabulous Jules. Says so much in such a fun way. I don’t follow nearly as many blogs as you did – but since many are poetry, I do spend a crazy amount of time reading posts… so will have to consider doing something similar to you. It is such a balancing act. I think you made a good call. Hope things are stable by you…sending good thoughts your way! xo

  7. that was some great reading. I am not usually caught into poetry these days, but yours is really great! Thank you. Enjoy enjoying the trees! 🙂

  8. Don’t feel bad, there are a lot of wonderful blogs out there but you can’t read them all. Just read them when you have some time, some of them you can stay up with with just a weekly or semi-weekly visit. I had 2 blogs I enjoyed reading and the author of these 2 blogs finally got overwhelmed by the whole blogging experience and they just quit! You have to have balance in life, so don’t have any regrets about not reading everyones blog who reads you. You are doing a wonderful job writing your blog as you can see by your blog stats of 33,000! There is no way you could read all those blogs every day! I can remember when you first started, and you said this blog was for you and your family, so do it however you need to do it for YOURSELF.

Thank you so much for this wonderful reassurance. I wish your homestead were closer, then we could exchange views over the fence! I think your blog is great!

Very well said, and very true, it is impossible to do everything. 🙂

    Ahaha! This is great, Jules

Sheesh! Did you blow me off too? I have 3500 emails and I’m close to doing what you did… I’m losing sleep over it, man. I love everyone but there is one of me and I have a life outside of blogging… Oy vey! 😆

  13. Rhonda says:

Very clever and not a bad idea. I too dread opening the inbox…I do it in the morning, and when everything has been dealt with, I feel lighter….then check it 30 minutes later and another 5 pages has shown up! Oy Vey. I think you are onto something here Jules.

To follow or not to follow? That is the question. This is the answer. Writers write.

    Very wise.

We still love you Jules…. and I have work inbox overload myself. I can’t seem to get to my projects for all the requests I get from my staff. I’m thinking a haitus from email for a couple hours a day is a great idea. So.. Cheers to you!!! I know you will be there for us all still. r

  18. Fergiemoto says:

I’m sure it’s nice to have some time back. Good for you!

  19. Obviously I can relate, hence my absence. But I love your blog and am catching up! Words of wisdom, love the poem!
