Well guess what I found out yesterday? Gutsy9 is definitely a male and he is also pied which means he is half blue and half white. So I was probably right about King being the father and one of the white peahens being the mother. A friend who was doing some painting here took one look at him and said “You have a pied peacock!” He was so surprised. Apparently we may find a few more little Gutsys around in the next few weeks but, since I haven’t been able to find any nests, it seems unlikely.
Here is a link to a website that shows pictures of what a pied peacock looks like when it’s fully grown. I found this very interesting.

None of Gutsy9’s possible parents, however, will take him under their wings!
He is SO beautiful!!
He is asleep on my shoulder now – he tucks his little head into my hair – so funny!
If he ever wants to visit Ohio, my little cottage is open!
that was very interesting and I always admire looking at your birds
I wonder what he will look like when he grows up – fascinating!
I think he will be unique and beautiful
Guess it’s up to you to take care of him. Hope he makes it.
Me too!
I figured Gutsy-9 for a boy, a Mama’s boy! Hee, hee. His parents are beautiful and when he gets all big and grown, sniff, sniff, he’ll be magnificent as well! 🙂
He is growing so fast!
Very interesting! I did not know they came in different colors. It will be interesting to see what he looks like grown!
I didn’t know about the pied thing until yesterday!
Gutsy just gets more unique with each post. I wonder what happened that his parents won’t claim him, but lucky him! He found you.
Usually (from what I’ve heard, but not experienced), the peahens are very good mothers so not sure why this has happened. If the foxes have killed other babies or taken eggs then I guess it is understandable.
[…] you so much, Julie, of current post You have a pied peacock […]
Ha!
I think you showed us another pied bird once and it was an amazing looking bird. I can’t wait to see how Gutsy9 turns out! 🙂
Yes – way back, I found a photo of a mixed breed peacock which a lot of people thought was a fake. I will have to google that pic. again.
😀
They are so beautiful – truly so beautiful. Love the yearling picture (in your link – your link worked!) with all that blue, illustrious blue.
I wonder what Gutsy9 will look like when he grows up – Ming is already jealous!
I wonder why his parents won’t acknowledge him? That is a bit sad….But he has you!….Diane
I think the parents are just a bit confused.
beautiful !
I am like a mother hen – ridiculous!
No I think it’s gorgeous 🙂 I want one too but ha ha not in inner city Sydney…
Beautiful – my second son’s girlfriend told me last week she works with a man who has peacocks and doesn’t want to hatch any more this season, so if he gets more eggs she’s going to bring them here and we’ll try them under one of the bantams 🙂
Good luck!
Lets hope you’re not the pied piper if more chicks turn up!
Yes – let’s hope!
What a stunner! 😀 xx
Adorable!
You are so lucky to have so many birds in your land and nice summer weather as well. I was reminded of your posts when travelling on a bus through a country area and passed a farm which had hens and a peacock in a large fenced off area. Despite the cold weather they were out pecking at the ground.
They seem to be okay with all sorts of weather.
Would they cope with snow and ice? Might be a bit cold.
How fabulous a white peacock looks!
So cool! I can’t wait to show these photos to my daughter. She just saw her first peacock the other day at a wildlife sanctuary.
Oh that’s great!
Fascinating Julie.
Thanks for sharing the link too. It will be interesting to see Gutsy9 when he’s grown up – I can’t wait.
Me too actually!
WAy too sweet! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a baby peacock! Cool.
I just followed your links and got all up to date on Pied Peacocks. That’s really interesting – but whatever his colors, it’s that sweet personality that makes him so charming. And you make a very good peacock mama!
Isn’t is amazing that something so tiny and cute will grow into something so beatiful, I think the pied peacocks are so stunning………..
Please nurture him while they sort out their lineage…
We are inseparable! He is on my shoulder now.
😆
Such gorgeous birds. I must have been getting the story hit or miss.
