From the sublime to the ridiculous!

on December 29, 2012

Yesterday I blogged about two rather serious things – one happy and one sad. Today, I feel like a bit of humour so I will tell you about something that happened just before Christmas.

The phone rang and I told Ming to take a message and, after a strangely long conversation with someone who was obviously unknown to Ming, he made a few notes, said goodbye and then came to tell me who it was.

“Mum, that was an old friend of Dad’s and she wants to come down from Perth with another old friend of Dad’s. They’ve heard he is in the nursing lodge and they want to see him.”

“Oh, that’s fantastic”, I said. “What are their names?”

When Ming told me I got the giggles. “Those are two of his ex-girlfriends, Ming!”

Ming was suitably shocked and wondered why I was giggling.

“It’s okay, they were well before my time. I’ve heard other people talk about them over the years but these two women would be around Dad’s age.”

“So you don’t mind?” Ming asked. “Aren’t you jealous?”

“No! How can I be jealous of girlfriends Anthony had when I was in kindergarten?”

So we will soon be visited by the exes – how interesting!

I was rather amused by Ming’s reaction in asking you if you were jealous.

What’s Ming think 2 women & Anthony are gonna do – have an orgy in a Nursing Home?

you are so right not to be jealous! he didn’t choose them did he? he chose you, the wise man that he is. i have had lunch/dinner and been to parties with ex-girlfriends for years. i have the holidays with the first wife. sometimes people are puzzled by this but it seems perfectly fine to me. these women were/are nice, interesting and it just didn’t work out romantically. it is so great that they are reaching out and offering their friendship.

  5. Oh my gosh, this is so perfect! I bet you could use a good laugh! I can’t wait to hear how it goes. Are you going to tell your husband ahead of time or leave it as a surprise?

that must be so weird to say: “…when I was in kindergarten.”

  9. :))) That was so precious… this is a story I’ve never heard of until I read yours… two exes coming to visit your husband… they turn out to be from kindergarten! I love it. Love, Granny Gee/Gloria

  10. weird for Ming if not for you–no exes no matter how old would get to visit my husband–ha ha

  11. I have images of walkers, support hose, dentures and other naughty things. Your son is adorable, worrying for his mommy that way. I’m so glad that you got a good laugh out of it. I would have been rendered useless with a case of non-stop giggles.

  12. (smiling) I think it’s awesome that they care enough to visit someone who was once very important in thier life. How far is Perth from where you are?

  13. Lynda says:

Of course he would rather see you. πŸ™‚

Wonderful …. What a sunshine story – and I think it’s a fantastic thing – never know what will come out of that visit for you – maybe friendship … I really hope so and that you will get a great time together. I read somewhere that we should phone somebody once per months … from our past, because it will make us feel better and also we will make somebody happy. I think I will do that – after reading this post. Somebody that I haven’t talked with for years … maybe it will be my resolution for 2013.

  16. Yeah nothing to be jelaous of the past is the past he chose you…………hope they do visit and hope he knows who they are…………

  17. Northern Narratives says:
