Mummy!

on April 16, 2013

After 3 weeks and 2 days in hospital, my mother can go home. Today! Due to the wrist and pelvic fractures, she has been allocated a 12-week care package including two nurse visits per day, gardening and cleaning, meal help, physiotherapy and rides to shops or elsewhere. I’m amazed at such a great package and it is relatively inexpensive.

In a couple of hours she’ll be home and I’m going over to stay for the first night. I’m going to cook something great while she catches up on her emails!

This has been gruelling for Meggles – horrible pain, intolerance of pain meds., nausea and dizziness, a zillion tests and x-rays, but she seemed to burst through the ghastliness a couple of days ago in her usual style – stoic, resilent, smiling.

She is still on two crutches but she’ll probably just be on one next week. My mother has guts!

Glad to hear your Mum is able to go home at last – (that care package sounds wonderful).

Hope she can get back to cycling one day. At her age, being able to do physical exercise you love is important to Mind, Body and Spirit. I’m sure she will relinquish the bike when ‘it’s time.’

  20. That is wonderful news!! I’m so happy for you and your mother. An extended stay in any hospital can drive anyone bonkers and send them into the doldrums. I am not surprised that your mother is resilient, brave and strong. Your traits came from somewhere!:) Enjoy making her a yummy meal! Hugs to you and your mommy.:)

Good she’s getting better. Having had my own share of broken bones myself I can imagine how much pain she is in. At least she is getting better and the pain will diminish every day until it goes.

I was given Diclofenac and Co-codamol but found they made me feel terrible so I stopped taking them and put up with the pain. Funnily enough I got used to the pain.
