The Good Wife

on July 6, 2015

The Good Wife is an American television series that began in 2009 and is still going! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Good_Wife

Now that Anthony and I have finished watching the British version of House of Cards, I decided to go shopping for something just as lengthy and discovered a box set of umpteen episodes of The Good Wife so I bought it.

It’s a great genre for Ants – legal drama, no blood, attractive actors of both genders, recognisable characters … ah and that’s where it gets interesting.

Okay, so we are into around our fifth episode of Season 1 of The Good Wife and there is a scene that triggers a memory for Anthony. He says something so I hit the pause button:

Me: What did you say?

Anthony: She used to be married to Alf.

Me: Who? You mean her? (pointing to the frozen screen of the television where the main actor in The Good Wife is smiling).

Anthony: Yes!

Me: Ants, we are watching TV!

Anthony: But I remember her and she was with Alf.

Me: Alf just got married two days ago but not to her.

Anthony: My mistake (sheepish grin). But can you just get the dogs out of the room?

Me: You’re hallucinating, Ants. There are no dogs in the room – it’s just you and me.

Anthony: I believe you but they’re still there.

Me: (giving him a hug) I have never loved you as much as I love you now, Ants.

Anthony: You’re a good wife.

Me: I agree – so can we keep watching our series?

Smiles and heartaches at the same time … and I imagine that’s common.

I have never seen that show. IT sounds interesting. Isn’t it weird how certain things trigger the memory?

I used to watch that show! It seems that although dementia “dogs” Anthony, the way you talk to him about it definitely makes you a good wife. You are so loving, firm (with humor, too) and honest. His responses show how much he appreciates you. What a love story this is!

  6. I loved Anthony’s comment ‘I believe you, but they’re still there’…. ! Diane

I have to write them down immediately (I have a notebook) because otherwise I wouldn’t believe those conversations really happened because some are so bizarre!

  8. So touching! I love that he believes you — and then asks you to please still get the dogs out! πŸ™‚

    You make my heart happy.

There is so much trust here, that you can tell him he is hallucinating and he accepts it-and what a wonderful compliment-indeed, you are a good wife!

I love reading about the conversations the two of you have!

  11. Funny. I started watching it once school ended. I almost gave up at one point because I liked that Alicia was uncompromising, but then . . .

Problem with me is that I get to “know” the characters, and it becomes an addiction of sorts. Thankfully, I finished all 5! Crazy I know. Anybody know when #6 is out on Amazon Prime? πŸ™‚

  12. What a fine moment! ” I believe you but they’re still there.” Beautiful.

  13. You are a good wife, and I have never seen the show The Good Wife not that you care but thought I would share that with you anyway
