Illness sucks

on August 1, 2013

It is now nearly a week since I succumbed to this horrid gastric attack and, knowing I am hopefully on the road to recovery, this misadventure has given me pause. Having embraced friendships with people who are chronically (sometimes terminally) ill, my relatively short experience of awful pain, nausea etc. makes me wonder with wonder at how they remain positive, on top, giving. There are too many of you to name but I’m sure you know who you are.

When I am ill, I am a total wimp, I cringe in fear, I whimper – I am pathetic.

I may not be able to blog for a little while but, rather than send me well wishes, please use the comments button to draw attention to you own blog. I hope that’s okay.

No you just get better… but just to make you feel better… we will rather think good thoughts your way so that you get better….

Ill people get through because there are people like you Julie: people who visit and spend time listening, reminiscing, and sharing a laugh or two.

  5. frankly i am glad you are choosing to take care of you rather than using your energy for blogs. i will note here that being terminally ill is very different than the flu. i would be a wimp if i had the flu. if you continued to have this for an ongoing period you would learn as we do to manage. please take care and let us know how you are.

I’m glad you’re on the mend. Take care of yourself.

  7. In the past 4 years I have had problems with scents, perfumes, room sprays etc. I don’t have anypain but my vocal cords stent open and I can’t speak. I find it frustrating as I am outgoing but bing in enclosed areas with people has become very difficult. I am very fit otherwise.
Hence my cycling blog because I can communicate freely on it.

No sorrys, I do hope you are getting lots of rest and water.. I am also amazed at what people can sustain with the smiles on their faces hiding such pain. I also think that maybe you need some rest and your body is telling you so.. get well soon. love love.. c

Sickness. Not the easiest path to negotiate

Sorry to hear you’re still unwell, Julie.

Having had gastro for a week (a couple of months ago & in the hospital for the night getting re-hydrated), I know exactly how you feel.

And being on your own means looking after yourself at the same time – no fun.

I hope the virus/bacteria passes out of your system soon. Try a mug of hot lemon juice – the more bitter the better. Lemon is a powerful bactericide and if it doesn’t kill all the bad bugs, at least it purges the liver. (no sugar or honey for those little buggies, must be bitter, hot, lemon juice).

  13. I hope that you feel better very soon! Gutsy-9 is getting so handsome!! My heart goes out to you Jules, be sure to stay hydrated, it is key to getting better. šŸ™‚

😦 I guess you can look at it this way: illness you can get over (hopefully soon); death you can’t. Glad you’re still around… XO

  18. So sorry you’re not well. Take care. Sending you good thoughts.

Oh, boy, I feel for you. But you’re right. People are amazing. Once they decide they will persevere, no matter the affliction, they’re pretty damned impressive.

  20. Hope you are feeling better soon. Great pic of Gutsy9!

  21. You are not pathetic, but human. It’s ok to be a wimp some of the time. The flu can certainly make us feel as if we are dying. We’ve all been there. Get well, be well, and we all look forward to your catching us up on what’s going on down on the farm. šŸ˜€

Get well soon dear Julie. xxx

Although I deal with pain and fatigue on a regular basis, I’m a total wimp when it comes to any kind of stomach problems. Take care and feel better!

  24. Terry says:

hope you are feeling better my friend. i was just telling the hospice nurse today that Al can be in a good mood even though his body is aching. she said terminal ill patients actually get used to their pains. I guess it makes sense, but still Al is much stronger than me, because I am the biggest wimp when I am sick

  25. Andrea Kelly says:

Illness DOES suck! I’m so sorry to hear you’re not feeling well. It sounds just awful! Hope you are feeling better soon – sending healing thoughts your way!

  26. I beg to disagree with you that you are a wimp. YOU in this post alone share with us your unselfish giving self. To offer up this space to plug our blogs instead of wishing you well is a side of your giving self. So… I believe you are braver than you realize, stronger too.

Gentle hugs to you Jules my friend.

  27. elizabeth says:

Sending healing prayers Julie. Hope you feel better soon. Love and hugs.
