“I’m gonna love you like I’m gonna lose you….”

on July 13, 2015

There are many lines in this song that echo one of my many recurring dreams about Anthony and me.

When I last posted, I described a dream where Ants had miraculously recovered; now that is definitely a beautiful dream.

A less beautiful, recurring dream is the one about death. In this dream, Anthony is dead and my dream-self is grief-stricken. But then my real-self wakes up from the dream and realises that he is alive after all. Many of the lyrics of the this song really got to me and are as follows:

I found myself dreaming…
Split second and you disappeared…
Wake up in tears with you by my side…
Breath of relief when I realised…
Whenever we’re standing…
No, we’re not promised tomorrow

Ming of course is not at all keen on either listening to, or reading, the lyrics of this song and, now that he has become musically superior to me, he likes to throw me his opinions:

It’s soooo repetitive, Mum!
It’s so cliched – oh, Mum, you can’t possibly like this song!
Yes, let’s have a chat about love … I like this girl who….
I’m off to my shed now, Mum. Love you!

I think I might just listen to the song one more time before I go to bed because I don’t care what the Ming says, this has become my song for Anthony.

  2. Rhonda says:

I think it’s perfect…and an affirmation of making the most of each day together. No Regets…that’s the point. xoxoxo

You are entitled to enjoy whatever makes you happy.

  4. A good song always sets off my inner most feelings.

  5. I think there’s a depth of love that isn’t realized until we’re older.. and that’s why Ming maybe doesn’t get it… just a thought.. Diane

I’m a firm believer in music puling at the heartstrings and leading to healing. Those words ARE profound. Trying to get Ming to see things like you is hopeless. I have the same thing with my kids – they see “mom” as too fuddy duddy to have romantic feelings or any feelings for that matter. They want to squash you. The joys of motherhood!

  7. I agree! It’s YOUR song!

  8. Had not heard this song, Julie, but I love the sentiment….

We need updating on Ming’s musical tastes and romances. I liked the song and see why you do too.

  12. Gave me goosebumps. The song sounds like it was written for you and Anthony!

  13. Isn’t it great to watch how absolutely sure the young are of their wisdom, I remember being so sure of how right I was in my opinions, lol It’s only after going around the block a few times, you finally realize how much you don’t actually know, gives a good appreciation of humility. I’m happy that you found a cool lovesong! hugs xx

This is so touching. Really poignant. Ming sounds so typical of his age. My boys love for ME to listen, but it’s not reciprocal. They’re too young.

  15. Val Boyko says:

Let it play in your heart Julie ❤️

  16. Lynda says:

The style is not for me, but OH are those words so meaningful. Glad to know I’m not the only one who went teary eyed while listening. Thank you for sharing this, Julie.

Julie, I’m sharing your tune today on my blog. If this is not OK then let me know and I will erase it immediately!
